Description
The ABE/GED Math Prep Instructor will plan, organize, establish priorities, coordinate and provide classroom instruction for GED Math Prep students.
Essential Functions
- Plan, develop, and provide program instruction in assigned subject area of Mathematics aligned with Oregon Adult College and Career Readiness Standards (OACCRS).
- Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, including traditional, non-traditional and international students.
- Participate in staff development and program improvement activities, including remaining up to date with OACCRS requirements.
- Assist and participate in continuous staff development improvement.
- Assist with planning and presenting departmental in-services and meetings.
- Address, with Director's assistance, student disciplinary issues/concerns as needed.
- Assist in maintaining student records; monitor and evaluate student progress; recruit, advise and register students.
- Assist in the accurate and timely collection and reporting of data as required by the federal government (WIOA Title II) through the Tracking of Programs and Students (TOPS) database.
- Assist in coordinating data collection and reporting for accountability, accreditation, and program review.
- Collaborate with other college faculty to ensure seamless transition for students into college-level programs.
- Assist in leadership and coordination for the annual GED Graduation Celebration.
- Participate in department and campus meetings, represent and advocate for the department.
- Complete all required State of Oregon (HECC), TVCC, and ABE/GED program and data training within six months of hire, including CASAS standardized placement and progress testing, maintain training/professional development requirements. Participate in Oregon Learning Standards training and incorporate content into daily instruction.
- Understand and abide by TVCC policies and regulations.
Qualifications
MANDATORY: Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, or related field with at least one year of related experience (Adult or secondary Education) or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position. Must be self-motivated, have organizational skills, and the initiative to work independently.
PREFERRED: Experience working in programs that support historically underrepresented students in higher education. Bilingual in English-Spanish.
Supplemental Information
This is a part-time position, working up to 29 hours per week. The position is grant-funded and continuation from year to year is dependent upon approved funding.

Professional & Classified Staff (20-39 weekly hours):
Depending upon the weekly hours a part-time position is approved to work, a part-time employee may be eligible for pro-rated Vacation, Personal Leave and Sick. The pro-rated amount is dependent upon the actual approved weekly hours and can vary from position to position (details can be found in the recruitment announcement).
Professional & Classified Staff (1-19 weekly hours):
Employees working up to 19 hours per week do not qualify for benefits other than those required by Oregon and Federal law.
Adjunct (part-time) Instructors:
Adjuncts are paid based on their credit load and do not qualify for benefits other than those required by Oregon and Federal law.
PERS (Public Employees Retirement System)
Part-time employees become eligible for PERS/OPSRP once they work 600 hours in any full or partial calendar year. This mandatory membership in PERS/OPSRP requires a 6% (pre-tax) contribution of your gross salary. You can find more information at
