Job description

Overview
History of the Company: Superior Ambulance Service started in 1959 with one ambulance and today is the largest independent, locally owned, and operated emergency medical services provider in the Midwest. Superior employs more than 4,000 licensed EMT, Paramedics and Nurses, operating a fleet of more than 800 ambulances throughout Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin with over 55 locations. Superior also provides Critical Care, helicopter, and fixed wing emergency medical transportation.
The Assistant Dispatcher is responsible for upping calls, answering overflow call volume, assist in overseeing and maintaining the status' of the gantt, assisting with giving out appropriate ETA's, triaging ambulance response, and act as support to customer service representatives.
All employees are expected to uphold the company's high value and impeccable reputation within the medical community. One must demonstrate the company's philosophy and values which are TLCS= Timelines, Look Good, Customer Service, and Safety.
Responsibilities
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Dispatcher consist of, but are not limited to the following:
  • Be extremely knowledgeable in service area
  • Give appropriate ETA's while accounting for type and level of response, traffic patterns, and weather conditions
  • Prioritize request for ambulance service
  • Communicate issues to marketing, management, and customers as necessary
  • Assist EMT's and Paramedics with directions as necessary
  • Always maintain appropriate status of crews
  • Oversee function of Assistant Dispatcher
  • Delegate additional responsibilities to assistant as necessary
  • Assist in receiving and entering in request for ambulance or Medi-Car service as necessary
  • Communicate patient diversions and keep all appropriate associated records
  • Maintain status records and give appropriate ETAs for Critical Care Transport as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Physical Demands:
    • While performing the duties of the position, the employee is required to sit for long periods of time.
    • Employee will be required to listen to radio traffic/PTT, communicate over the phone as well as monitor and respond to all chat messages, and ability to type is required.
    • Employee should be able to work under stressful conditions.
  • Work Environment:
    • While performing the duties of the job, the employee has verbal contact with others and constantly works face to face with and around others and constantly works face to face with and around others.
    • Consistently uses office equipment such as computer, radios, printers, fax machine, etc.
