Our client is seeking a skilled and dynamic Team Leader – Utility Infrastructure to lead project delivery and team development in Columbus, OH. Group: Utility Infrastructure

This role is responsible for the oversight of municipal infrastructure projects involving water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. It includes staff supervision, project leadership, technical direction, and client engagement.


Key ResponsibilitiesWorkflow & Staff Management
  • Forecast monthly staffing and financial needs (3-month look-ahead)

  • Maintain project lists, monitor billings, and ensure profitability

  • Coordinate with Group Leaders to align staffing and workflow

  • Identify hiring needs and assist in recruitment and onboarding

  • Conduct performance reviews and handle personnel matters

  • Maintain strong team morale and support a culture of accountability

Staff Development
  • Support career development planning for team members

  • Mentor engineers and project managers in both technical and managerial skills

  • Guide project managers in proposal writing, fee negotiation, and client relations

  • Train team on project delegation, scheduling, and budget adherence

  • Track and support growth of team members through regular development checkpoints

Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical direction for water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects

  • Serve as a senior technical resource for complex engineering challenges

  • Review and resolve project bottlenecks

  • Ensure designs comply with regulatory standards and best practices

Project Management
  • Lead proposal development and contract negotiation

  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, and deliverables

  • Manage project financials to ensure profitability

  • Ensure on-time, high-quality project delivery

Quality Assurance
  • Conduct quality control reviews at each project stage

  • Implement QA/QC protocols using available technical resources

Client Management & Business Development
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing clients

  • Identify new opportunities within current accounts

  • Assist with business development and pre-sales activities

  • Build and maintain a robust client pipeline


Key Performance Metrics

Required QualificationsManagement & Communication
  • Proven leadership and mentorship capabilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience in proposals, fee development, and business growth

  • Effective at managing workflow, deliverables, and team dynamics

Technical Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in utility infrastructure design and management, including:

    • Wastewater and water treatment plants

    • Water distribution systems

    • Sanitary sewer collection systems

    • Lift station design

  • Track record of profitable project execution

  • Familiarity with municipal clients and regulatory environments

Education & Licensing
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License – must be active or eligible for reciprocity in Ohio
