Certified Peer Counselor

This position provides services to individuals who reside in long-term facilities with complex medical issues and behavioral health disorders that participate in the Residential Service Waiver (RSW) Behavior Support program. Clients in the Behavior Support Program have recently been discharged from a psychiatric hospital and/or are at risk of losing placement. The Certified Peer Counselor will share their personal recovery story to help inspire hope and empowerment in the client’s own recovery process. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Provide 1:1 peer support to clients in the behavior support program in the facility or community settings. 
• Practice in accordance with HIPAA and safekeeping of client protected health information. 
• Provide psychoeducation groups to increase socialization and community integration. 
• Ensures to follow requirements of organization, licensing, laws, and payers for all services. 
• Utilizes evidence-based practices, knowledgeable about behavioral health disorder and community resources. 
• Compliant with trainings and certifications. 
• Behaviors reflect an ethical and professional manner consistent with policy, licensing entities, and legal requirements. 
• Committed to showing respect for diversity and developing multicultural sensitivity and humility. 
• Collaborate with other professionals in the community.  
• Complete documentation in a timely manner. 

Education/License/Certification/Experience 

• Peer counselor certificate from DBHR. 
• Current Washington State Licensure/Certification/Registration. Attain an Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration within 90 days of hire. 
• Valid Washington State Driver’s License, vehicle, and insurance. 
• In recovery from a behavior health disorder for 3+years. 

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge 

• Able to pass pre-employment criminal background check; may include additional search by DSHS. 
• General computer proficiency and able to use electronic health records in a timely manner. 

Physical Demands/Work Environment 

• CPC will provide outreach to community settings which include but not limited to long-term facilities, medical facilities, community organizations and hospitals. 
• Occasionally may lift up to 20 lbs. Required to sit, walk, stand, talk, use close vision and drive a personal vehicle.  The physical demands outlined are required by an employee. Reasonable accommodation may be use with persons with disabilities.
