Fiber Splicing Technician

As a Fiber Splicing Technician, you will apply your prior telecommunication experience, along with fiber optic splicing skills to support fiber construction and installations through mainline, curb, and customer premise fiber splicing. Duties will include extending customer demarcation points, resolving inside wiring and central office wiring issues, and testing all completed splices. You will apply your teamwork and customer service strengths as you work closely with the Outside Plant team and the Service Delivery Coordinators to ensure the delivery due dates are met.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Work with engineers and/or OSP PM’s to perform fusion splicing as directed
• Serve as a resource to the internal staff on matters concerning splicing practices and procedures
• Provide management with detailed reports of field splicing activity
• Organize splicing as-builds files utilizing software packages for in-house fiber cable inventory and route designs
• Communicate with Project Manager and Service Delivery Coordinators on workload status in order to meet designated goals
• Maintain fiber asset inventory and splicing records
• Maintains written installation procedures
• Manage multiple projects at one time
• Works with customer service staff and customer, to resolve issues
• Handles questions and concerns presented by customers and vendors
• Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic that can provide high productivity with minimal supervision
• Completes tasks and work orders on time, accurately updating notes

Basic Technical Duties

• Ability to fusion or mechanical splice SM or MM fiber optic cables, to include terminate various types of fiber optic connectors (ST,SC, LC)
• Know how to pull cable, terminate, and cable standards, closet build outs, building/fire codes
• Installation and testing of pressurized and non-pressurized closures on all types and sizes of cable
• Experience and knowledge using Fiber Optic Scope and or a Fiber OTDR
• Installation and dressing of fiber optic cables (vertical/horizontal)
• Intermediate to advanced understanding of telecommunications fundamentals
• Installation of cabling at customer premise
• Ability to terminate all Telco mediums (twisted pair, cable, coax and fiber to BISCII standards)
• Know how to terminate and repair various optical connections
• Tests all services and products after installation
• Must be able to pass a background check for Collocation access

Must have 2+ years of splicing experience. High School/GED/Some College Preferred or equivalent; or 3-6 years of related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have the ability to travel as required.
