The GIS Analyst assists in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of DDEC’s Geographic Information System. This position will play a key role in using GIS data to support various transportation and mobility related activities, planning projects and initiatives. The GIS Analyst is responsible for working with complex work assignments including data analysis, identification of trends and patterns, map design and related graphical media, and the administration of GIS applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect, maintain, and update GIS data related to transportation infrastructure, public transit, road networks, traffic, land use, and other mobility-related factors.
- Provide support for a range of GIS projects, assisting with tasks such as creating reports, defining workflows, and other GIS products.
- Provide support for various projects, such as traffic analysis, route optimization, and infrastructure development.
- Ensure the accuracy and reliability of data through data validation and quality control processes.
- Creates maps, graphs, and other visual representation of data to communicate findings and support recommendations for improvements.
- Communicates insights and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences effectively.
- Assists in management of GIS software installations, maintenance, and administration.
- Stay current with the latest GIS technologies and transportation planning trends for improving performance or processes.
- In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the incumbent may be required to perform other job-related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Engineering, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or a related field, and 1+ years’ experience in GIS applications support. A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
- Experience with ArcGIS software (e.g. ArcGIS) and related tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with GIS systems, GIS data standards and best practices.
- Ability to design, document, build, implement, manage, and maintain geodatabases and custom applications, with data from transportation, traffic, parking, points of interest and socio-economic data.
- Experience developing maps and related graphical media.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Experience in transportation or related fields is a plus.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
