Tubman is seeking a Shelter Program and Operations Manager to join a dynamic and collaborative team to support the agency’s mission, vision, and values. This position is responsible for ensuring program effectiveness and providing a safe welcoming environment for shelter participants and for the direct management of program and operations staff. Including managing the delivery of emergency shelter services, advocacy services to domestic violence survivors and their children. This position is based at our Maplewood Shelter

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervision, including training, onboarding, and scheduling, support, oversight, and performance management of assigned program staff, volunteers, interns, and contract workers.
  • Prioritizes, organizes, and schedules job assignments for oneself and others under supervision.
  • Spends time on the “shelter floor” to support staff/clients as needed and to be present for crisis support.
  • Rotates with other shelter leadership to provide 24/7 on call consultation and back up shift coverage.
  • Meets with clients as needed to handle client conflict resolution, grievances, and problem-solve larger issues.
  • Acts as the Project Coordinator for the Domestic Violence Housing First Project funded by the Office of Justice Programs, including: program assessment and alignment with Housing First principles, training staff in housing first, and representing the agency on progress and challenges in the community.
  • Oversees all program operations to ensure quality.
  • Oversees all aspects of residential food service and ensures shelter residents with special dietary needs have access to appropriate foods. Become a Certified Food Protection Manager if not one already.
  • Supervises contracted food service and security vendor and acts as the primary contact.
  • Acts as liaison between facilities team and shelter team.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and pressing deadlines
  • Ability to welcome and engage a diverse group of stakeholders through a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Excellent computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Action oriented and self-directed
  • Displays willingness to make decisions; exhibits sound and accurate judgment; makes timely decisions
  • Understand and work from the agency’s set of values and philosophical approaches; including harm-reduction/housing first, trauma-informed care, violence as a learned behavior, client-centered and led work, etc.
  • Must be able to be on call and work flexible hours as needed for program and staff supervision.
  • Have access to reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and insurance, and maintain a good driving record.
  • Pass a DHS fingerprint criminal background study as required by program licensing.

Education & Experience:

Required:

  • 2+ years applicable experience
  • 1+ year of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of relationship violence, sexual exploitation, addiction, mental health challenges, or other trauma
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Preferred: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field
  • 2 years’ experience in related work or equivalent applicable experience, preferably in domestic violence services.


Compensation & Benefits

The targeted hiring salary for this position is $65,000 annually.
