Primary Role:
This position supports Grades PK-12

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Must maintain and have a current appropriate certification for Educational Diagnostician in the State of Texas.
  • Two (2) years of teaching experience is required.
  • The incumbent must have knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of students receiving Special Education services, human development, and learning theories.
  • Incumbents must be able to read, write, and converse fluently in English.

Primary Purpose:

This position is responsible for the evaluation, interpretation of results, and participation in eligibility decisions for students with disabilities or suspected disabilities as part of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee (ARDC). Incumbent must be knowledgeable of a variety of evaluation instruments for educational programming of eligible students who have been identified as requiring Special Education services.

Skill Requirements:

This position requires knowledge of and ability to apply learning theories, knowledge of test construction and statistical educational theory and application, and the knowledge of State, local, and Federal regulations affecting the identification and programming of students with disabilities. Incumbents must also have the ability to administer and interpret a variety of evaluation instruments, make recommendations for intervention, and have the ability to communicate clearly with parents, teachers, and other school staff regarding both individual evaluations and general information. This position requires the ability to read, write and speak English fluently.

Professional Requirements:

  • Select and administer assessments and observations to evaluate the intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of referred students and to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and state regulations.
  • Score and interpret test data both individually or in collaboration with Licensed Specialists in School Psychology.
  • Conduct or participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
  • Serve as case manager and implement the special education assessment process for students on assigned campuses.
  • Assist classroom teachers with the implementation of a student's IEP.
  • Present staff development and professional learning opportunities for school personnel in identifying and understanding students with disabilities.
  • Continue professional development through professional training opportunities, professional literature, and collaboration with colleagues.
  • Meet with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results.
  • Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of student and interpretation of assessment data.
  • Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students as needed.
  • Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of psychological services and assessment procedures and make changes based on findings.
  • Assist in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including case records, test results, statistical data, and test inventories.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the areas of psychological services, assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.
  • Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Provide professional development as necessary to support district goals and vision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding information concerning students, parents, staff, and classroom incidents.
  • Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional and responsible.
  • Participate in approved professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Follow school's standard procedures for communication, interaction, and discipline as outlined in the school Staff Handbook.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Physical Demands: This position is active and may involve standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items over 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
