SUMMARY:

Prepare and service coffee beverages for guests in a speedy, efficient, friendly and professional manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • As barista, prepares all coffee drinks, including mixed drinks, requested by guests, sometimes at a very fast pace. Maintains appropriate portion control.
  • Understand suggestive selling techniques to help a guest make their coffee drinks more enjoyable, by suggesting different coffee drinks.
  • A Barista must act in a responsible manner concerning cash handling.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the coffee bar area through disposing of all waste and wiping down coffee bar and preparation areas, utensils, or equipment.
  • Properly account for all services by following all established bookkeeping policies and procedures.
  • Provide opening and closing inventory of goods.
  • Must be able to operate all equipment within the bar area, including cash register, coffee maker, drink mixers, etc.
  • Prepare or serve hot or cold beverages, such as coffee, espresso drinks, blended coffees, or teas.
  • Check temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, or heating equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Describe menu items to customers or suggest products that might appeal to them. Place order with Hotel Storeroom, receive, or stock supplies or retail products.
  • Ensure prompt service, quality beverages and products, and maintain a clean and comfortable environment.
  • Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual.
  • Anticipates customer and store needs by constantly evaluating environment and customers for clues.
  • Contributes to a positive team environment by recognizing alarming or changes in partner morale and performance and communicating them to the store manager.
  • Delivers legendary customer service to all customers by acting with a customer “comes first” attitude and connecting with the customer.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Provides quality beverages, whole bean, and food products consistently for all customers by adhering to all recipe and presentation standards.
  • Follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products.
  • Must have prior coffee shop experience

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. No previous experience required. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Ability to learn quickly, to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and request clarification when needed. Have strong interpersonal skills, ability to work as part of a team and ability to build professional relationships.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent and one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to clearly and precisely relay information on hotel and banquet capabilities to clients in both written and verbal form. Ability to read and understand event order forms, and to translate multiple forms into work schedules and appropriate inventory orders such as wine and linen. Ability to speak with clients and assess their needs.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of currency and weight measurement, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk and hear. The colleague frequently is required to stand up for 4 hours, walk, and sit. The colleague is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, perform repetitive motions, bending, and climbing. Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying up to 30 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
