JOB TITLE: Dental Hygienist

DEPARTMENT: Dental

RESPONSIBLE TO: Dental Director

EDUCATION: Minimum of an associate degree program

completion in Dental Hygiene program

LICENSURE: Active MD License to practice dental hygiene

POSITION SUMMARY: A dental hygienist is an oral health professional licensed to provide educational, clinical and therapeutic services to the public. A dental hygienist’s primary duties are to care for patients using an individual oral health regimen

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Listed below are some services that are in the scope of care that a dental hygienist may be able to perform.

1. Health history assessment

2. Dental hygiene exam and charting of extra oral and extra oral conditions. Which include periodontal charting, dental charting and classifying occlusion of the teeth.

3. Dental hygiene assessment and treatment planning

4. Remove hard and soft deposits (Calculus, plaque and stains) from tooth surfaces

5. Periodontal scaling and root planning

6. Administration of local anesthesia for Plaque control

7. Apply tooth-decay preventive agents (Fluoride, sealants to the teeth.

8. Dental hygiene nutritional and dietary evaluation

9. Placement of oral agents for prevention and treatment of periodontal disease

10. Expose, process and interpret dental x-rays

11. Place and remove periodontal dressings

12. Provide patient oral hygiene instructions to provide better health care maintenance.

OTHER RESPONSABILITIES: Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
