Dental Assistant

Assists providers with patient treatment, four handed dentistry introducing residents to new materials and techniques, and expanded laboratory functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Greets patients and seats patient in appropriate operatory in a timely and efficient manner.
2. Performs all phases of four-handed dentistry.
3. Takes dental x-rays; makes radiographic exposures as permitted by the Department of Environmental Protection.
4. Place and remove rubber dams, place and remove matrices and wedges, place temporary sedative restorations, and removes excess cement from crowns or other restorations and orthodontic appliances.
5. Remove sutures; places and removes periodontal dressings and other surgical dressings.
6. Fabricates and cements temporary crowns and bridges.
7. Take impressions for diagnostic models.
8. Places amalgam and gold foil. Places and removes retraction cards and medicated pellets, and performs bite registration procedures.
9. Pre-selects orthodontic bands, wires, stainless steel crowns and temporary crowns.
10. Prepares teeth for bonding.
11. Removes arch wires and ligature wires.
12. Takes impression for and performs laboratory fabrication of mouth guards.
13. Apply topical anesthetic agents.
14. Select shades of prosthetic appliances, and light cure in the process of restoring a tooth.
15. Assists doctor in the administration of nitrous oxide.
16. Takes patient vitals; provides oral health education such as dietary analysis and clinical instruction in order to promote dental health.
17. Responsible for ordering clinic supplies, restocking and maintenance of equipment, and conducts inventory of supplies
18. Follows clinic and dental school infection control procedures.
19. Conducts daily chart audits, and updates information in patient's charts.
20. Contributes to and supports goals and objectives of the clinic. Such as: Effectively contributes to and supports and environment that enhances goals and objectives of the clinic; actively and enthusiastically participates and contributes to smooth functioning and operations of clinic; demonstrates professional and ethical standards which ae supportive of administrative decisions and practices.
21. Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
22. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Satisfactory completion of a formal dental assisting program in an ADA approved program, and certification as a dental assistant and expanded duty assistant in the State of New Jersey.
Must possess a valid dental technology license and CPR issues by the New Jersey Department of environmental Protection.
A minimum of two (2) years of prior dental assistant experience required
