Clinical Therapist Asylum Seekers Program - Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Hours: Part-Time (20 hours weekly)
North Star Wellness Center is strengthening and preserving families, North Star Wellness Center is at the forefront of creating and implementing solutions to meet the growing needs of vulnerable families in the U.S.
As a mental health worker for the Asylum seekers. Program, you will be primarily responsible for providing weekly individual counseling. Groups will be psycho-educational with a focus on Human Trafficking. Sessions are with newly arriving immigrant clients (primarily Spanish-speaking). Treatment will be trauma-focused.
This position is expected to function effectively with moderate supervision while following the guidelines given on procedures, along with agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct weekly therapy sessions once per week with clients in the program, while meeting the pre-defined and stipulated minimum billable hours in office requirements per week as defined by the supervisor and program expectations; Sessions will be conducted via telehealth, telephonic and in-person platforms.
- Conduct weekly individual sessions with clients or as outlined in the treatment plan.
- Complete and report on client intakes, referrals, closing summaries, and psychosocial documentation promptly and by agency standards.
- Provide reports and testimony, if requested by ISAP.
- Administer the intake psychosocial assessment within 24-48 hours of the client's arrival to the program.
- Administer the trafficking assessments within the defined number of days of the client's arrival to the program.
- Attend meetings with the treatment team and actively participate in meetings.
- Meet weekly with the Program Coordinator and/or Program Manager to share updates on the client's progress.
- Attend training provided internally and in the community and apply newly gained knowledge in providing services.
- Translate both written and verbal communication for program clientele and staff.
- Attend weekly meetings with the supervisor to consult on cases, review case plans and directions, and evaluate client participation and progress.
- Maintain clear and concise documentation of treatment efforts.
- Effectively utilize appropriate systems for data gathering, submission, and tracking client services rendered by time-bound expectations based on contract requirements, agency expectations, and program policy.
- Establish and maintain referral and community resources.
- Stay abreast of all North Star Wellness, federal, and state regulatory requirements related to social services.
- Stay up to date on treatment modalities and complete training as required by North Star Wellness, and funding sources, by attending conferences, seminars, and journal reading.
- Complete other duties as assigned by Agency Program Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in counseling, Social Work, Criminology, Psychology, Counseling, and Rehabilitation a related field of study from an accredited college.
- Must have a broad knowledge of basic principles, concepts, and methodology of social work as acquired through a master's level degree.
- Active professional licensure, and or registered eligible associate in the state of the work location.
- Bi-lingual English and Spanish.
- Prior knowledge and experience with trauma-informed treatment modalities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with adults and families from diverse cultures with sensitivity to cultural differences and norms.
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport with clients to help them adjust to new life circumstances.
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent clinical, therapeutic, and crisis intervention skills.
- Must have the ability to provide excellent and compassionate customer service.
- Ability to work independently and exercise a high level of confidentiality.
- Computer and typing skills sufficient to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a criminal history screen, including Federal (Homeland Security) state, and local child protection agency registries.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
