The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) is the only national force devoted to solving the mystery of lupus, one of the world’s cruelest, most unpredictable, and devastating diseases while also giving caring support to those who suffer from its brutal impact. The mission of the Foundation is to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through programs of research, education, and advocacy. The Region serves Missouri, Southern Illinois, & Kansas.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Lupus Foundation of America is seeking an energetic, experienced nonprofit professional to serve as the Regional Director for the Heartland Region. The Regional Director is responsible for overseeing the strategic growth and successful operation of the Region. The Regional Director is responsible for the overall strategic growth strategies for the Region including revenue generation, volunteer leadership development, donor cultivation and stewardship, program execution, enhanced constituent engagement and advancing the mission of the Lupus Foundation of America.

The Regional Director is a member of the Network Development Department and collaborates with all members of the Lupus Foundation of America Executive Team as applicable.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Roles and responsibilities of the Regional Director include, but are not limited to:

Volunteer Development and Fundraising

  • Lead the identification, cultivation and acquisition of major donors, foundation, and corporate support.
  • Work with staff to support lead volunteers and committees in expanding the reach and fundraising for the Mission.
  • Establish a culture of high performance and accountability while serving and engaging LFA constituents and stakeholders with a special emphasis on donor and leadership development; corporate engagement; volunteer engagement, and accountability.
  • Establish and execute short and long-term strategic plans for fund development and programmatic initiatives/events to ensure consistent growth and service to constituents.
  • Provide direction and support to Regional Leadership Council to engage in fund development activities, including identification and solicitation of donors and involvement in special events.
  • Recruit, develop and support high-level volunteers to lead the local region’s fundraising campaigns.

Leadership and Operations

  • Responsible for achieving assigned regional budget, creating outcomes that will enable the region to meet/exceed budget goals.
  • Monitor P&L and partner with the national office to assess the region's annual and monthly budgets, cash flow, and to ensure accurate financial forecasts.
  • Identify market potential and high potential growth areas. Provide assessment of market areas including income trends, demographics, ROI and potential for income, and leadership development.

Mission, Strategy, and Operations

  • In partnership with all LFA departments, ensure the region staff and volunteer leadership integrate government relations, marketing, public relations, community outreach, communication, and media relation programs within their market’s overall development activities.
  • Provide constituent education and community engagement opportunities.

Position Requirements

  • An experienced fund-raising professional with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in successful revenue generation and volunteer engagement with a proven track record of exceeding fundraising goals.
  • Broad based fundraising knowledge, experience, and skill in nonprofit management with emphasis on strategic planning, leadership, financial management, and market development.
  • Superior relationship development skills.
  • Budget planning and oversight.
  • Experience leading committees and high-level volunteer leadership.
  • Successful experience managing and developing staff.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with volunteers.
  • Superior relationship building skills and experience cultivating connections with major donors, corporate sponsors, and community partners.
  • Experience planning and executing large scale fundraising events and programs.
  • Effectively multi-task, establish priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment. Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills. Demonstrate competency when handling diversified assignments.
  • Team player with the ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers. Strong capability to leverage relationships and negotiate agreements.
  • Excellent written, oral, and communication skills. Ability for strong presentation delivery, conveying ideas, and instructing effectively.
  • Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative.
  • Well-disciplined and a self-starter that is extremely resourceful.
  • 25% travel – primarily in market.
  • This position is Hybrid (a mix of remote & in St. Louis office): remote 3-4 days per week, in office 1-2 days.
