JOB SUMMARY: (Brief narrative of the position that highlights its general characteristics – overview of position.)

Supervise up to 50 inmate workers in Wood plant. Train and supervise inmate workers to product various products relating to wood office furniture to include executive and secretarial desks, conference tables, bookcases, credenzas, lateral file cabinets and computer workstations, residence furniture for university dormitories and custom orders as well as other wood products' products. Requires strong supervisory skills for directing and training inmates working and assessing their skills.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Cover all ESSENTIAL major duties and areas of responsibility - no minor tasks, 4-14 duty statements only.) Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Train inmate workers on producing wood products; coordinate the activities of inmate workers engaged in the production or processing of goods, such as inspectors, machine setters, or fabricators.
  2. Confer with supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
  3. Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
  4. Conduct inmate worker training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures or assign employee training to experienced workers.
  5. Inform supervisor regarding requisitioning materials, supplies, equipment parts, or repair service.
  6. Coordinate with all departments to ensure Production Schedules are adhered to and provide Pride Customers with on time deliveries to and Acceptable Quality Standard.
  7. Become familiar with and use Dynamics 365 on a daily basis after training.
  8. Examine and measure finished articles to verify conformance to standards, using rulers.
  9. Record quantities of materials processed.
  10. Turn knobs, screws, and dials to adjust settings of machines, according to garment styles and equipment performance.
  11. Repair or alter items by adding replacement parts.
  12. Perform equipment maintenance tasks such as replacing tools and fixtures, cleaning and greasing machines.
  13. Cut materials according to specifications, using machines, hand tools and routers..
  14. Position material or articles in clamps, templates, or on machines prior to automatic operation of machines.


Requirements:

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: There are six sub-sections, you can use some or all of them.

  1. Education and Experience: Three (3) years of experience in wood plant. Prefer one-year supervisory experience.
  2. Language Skills: Good verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
  3. Mathematical Skills: Basic math skills.
  4. Reasoning Ability: Reading comprehension.
  5. Specialized Knowledge and/or Skill:
  • Proficient in operating sewing machine.
  • Ability to assemble parts of a garment
  • Self-starter
  • Understand quality control awareness and management
  • Safety management
  • Ability to foster teamwork
  • Detail-oriented
  • Handle stress and conflict resolution skills
