Last year, ULS assisted over 9,000 clients with legal issues related to their basic needs, such as housing, family safety, and income security. More than 70 attorneys and legal professionals working remote and in person, deliver client services from four regional offices in Salt Lake City, Ogden, Provo and St. George. Job Summary 

We are searching for an experienced individual located near the First or Second Judicial District to join our Domestic Taskforce.  As part of our team, you will provide ethical and competent legal representation and support services to clients from low income and disadvantaged communities across the state of Utah.  You will have the opportunity to work with a team of like-minded professionals to empower and assist survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault with their legal matters. This is a hybrid position based out of our Ogden office and will require some travel.  


Key Responsibilities 

  • Represent clients in protective orders, stalking injunctions, divorce and custody cases.  
  • Prepare pleadings, exhibits, motions, memorandum, discovery documents, motions, responses, administrative letters, briefs, petitions and counter petitions as needed for case progression and resolution. 
  • Clearly communicate with clients to determine their goals, then assess factual situations and present relevant legal strategies. 
  • Prepare and file necessary court documents. 
  • Negotiate settlements when appropriate, mitigating negative consequences to clients whenever possible. 
  • Manage, organize and strategically review case action. 
  • Review paralegal prepared documents, declarations and findings of facts; ensure document compliance with grantees and regulatory governing bodies. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Skills and Abilities 

  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, verbal and written communication skills. 
  • High level of adaptability, attention to detail, strong analytic and critical thinking abilities. 
  • Demonstration of a strong commitment to assisting individuals from disadvantaged communities. 
  • Professional experience related to working with survivors of domestic violence preferred. 
  • Previous Family Law experience.  
  • Spanish speaking preferred. 

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. 
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school. 
  • Admission and good standing within the Utah State Bar Association. 

Job Compensation and Location 

  • Hourly rate $35-$45 DOE 
  • This is a full-time exempt position. 
  • The position is hybrid work but will require some travel for in-person appearances in court and meetings when necessary.
