Research Technician

Elemental Enzymes is looking for a Research Technician I with microbiology, biochemistry and/or molecular biology experience to join a team of multidisciplinary scientists with the mission to develop sustainable, biological solutions that change the future of agriculture. The primary focus of this position is to contribute to efforts develop novel platforms for delivery of bio-actives. We are seeking a Research Technician I, that possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills, organization skills and able to work closely with a Research Scientist.

Job Description

  • The Research Technician will be responsible for assisting Research Scientist with the design, execution, troubleshooting and interpretation of a variety of laboratory experiments.
  • Under the direction of a Research Scientist, performs routine laboratory experiments utilizing techniques in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and plant biology.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records and organization of samples.
  • Assist in the development or amending of protocols and standard operating procedures in response to research objectives.
  • Supports the preparation of material to present research progress to internal stakeholders.
  • Provides general administrative support including laboratory management, prepping reagents, and managing laboratory inventory.
  • Additional responsibilities may be added at the discretion of management.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


Required Experience/Abilities
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field and 1+ years of relevant laboratory experience required.
  • Proven ability to execute experiments in a laboratory setting.
  • Experience in basic biochemical, microbiological, and molecular laboratory techniques (e.g., culturing microorganisms, plasmid isolation, PCR, bacteria transformation, SDS-PAGE, enzyme activity assays).
  • Desired, experience working with plants in a laboratory setting.
  • Ability to follow work instructions and test protocols.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and basic math skills.
  • Goal-oriented individual with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary research team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills including use of Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Office programs.
  • Proven ability to budget time and manage several distinct projects at once.

Physical Requirements
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Lifting and raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
  • Those with this position must be able to work in Biosafety Level 1 and 2 Laboratories which can cause more illnesses to those with immunocompromised systems.
