Intermediate Fire Protection Engineer
Washington, DC Area

Grant Leading Technology is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to become a part of our team! The candidate will work closely with a team comprising of Interior Designers and MEP Engineers assisting in requirements gathering, and space planning for commercial buildings. The successful candidate will work with clients to ensure deliverables fall within the applicable scope. They will coordinate with other departments to ensure all aspects of each project are compatible. This position will be hybrid and work Monday-Friday 8am-5pm EST occasional travel required.
Responsibilities:
  • Support Lead Design in MEP and Fire suppression meetings to determine clients’ needs
  • Design and review fire prevention and suppression systems
  • Assist Lead Designers and Project Managers on large full building renovations 
  • Provide space deliverables related to fire alarm and fire suppression requirements
  • Prepare detailed fire prevention plan including life safety systems
  • Provide recommendations to mitigate fire damage in coordination with design development
  • Provide recommendations for design, installation, and maintenance of fire detection, suppression, and communication systems
  • Analyze buildings and materials for potential fire hazards
  • Work within timely schedules to coordinate the completion of tasks through to final project completion
  • Provide recommendations for potential value engineering opportunities
  • Apply NFPA, ICC, and IBC standards in design work
  • Work within timely schedules to coordinate the completion of tasks through to final project completion
  • Review Design Intent Drawings (DIDs) and Construction drawings (CDs)
  • Review vendor provided cost estimates, drawings, and submittals
  • Develop and review fire protection inspection and testing reports
  • Review vendor provided cost estimates, drawings, and submittals
  • Develop and review 35% Design Intent Drawings (DIDs)
  • Review and implement fire codes, building codes, and standards

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
 
  • Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in Engineering, Fire Science, or related field
  • Four to eight (4-8) years of experience in commercial Sprinkler and Fire Alarm design
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in AutoCAD
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite
  • Experience with NFPA and various standards and practices applied in the design field
  • Experience in working on projects in various stages, from conception to completion
  • Deadline and detail-oriented
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel nationwide to perform site surveys, including building and furniture systems surveys (20%)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States with ability to pass the government background check
  • Must live in commutable distance to Washington, D.C.

Preferred Skills:
  • Professional Engineer License (any state), or working towards license
  • Experience working with Revit
  • Experience in Sketch-Up, or other design software
  • Federal government project experience
  • Proficiency in completing Design Intent Drawing (DID) and Construction Drawing (CD)
  • Preferred LEED Certified
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS)
