Job Description

BACKGROUND

For nearly 40 years, Urban Strategies, Inc. has assisted residents and community stakeholders to design and implement a wide range of transformative projects in distressed U.S. communities. Our goal is to ensure that our all of families are stable and thriving.


JOB SUMMARY:

The Executive Fellow directly supports Urban's executive staff and leadership through research and policy analysis, thought leadership, grant writing and coordination, and general operating support. The Fellowship is an opportunity to collaborate with leadership on day-to-day operations, key internal and external publications, grant proposals, meetings and events, and strategic planning efforts. This position is meant to help the Fellow to also develop his/ her own aptitude in community organizing, non-profit management, policy making, and creative problem-solving.


RESPONSIBILITIES

The Executive Fellow's work responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to coordinating, writing, editing, and submitting grant proposals for project-specific funding opportunities and core organizational support;
  • Completing qualitative and quantitative assessments (including literature reviews, interviews, and statistical analyses) to help in production of internal and external products, including annual "Impact Report", "Stories of US" blog, and national dashboard;
  • Tracking, assessing, and developing responses to policy changes that may impact Urban's work;
  • Collaborating with and providing support to leadership during strategic planning processes;
  • Coordinating outreach and sustained engagement with Urban's community and corporate partners, new and existing funders, and other key stakeholders;
  • Helping communicate Urban's mission, history, and practice to broader audiences; and
  • General administrative duties.
  • The Executive Fellow, in collaboration with his/ her supervisor(s), is also responsible for duties pertaining to professional development:
  • Creating a plan for personal development and growth that aligns with Urban's mission and values;
  • Becoming articulate in the Results-Based Leadership framework; and
  • Identifying and attending at least one (1) professional conference in a field related to Urban's portfolio of practice.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong interest in community development, planning, and non-profit management;
  • Commitment to equity working to reduce disparities based on race, ethnicity, sovereignty, gender, sexual orientation/ gender identity and socioeconomics;
  • Relevant academic, internship, or professional experience; ideally have an interest in pursuing a career in executive leadership and/ or a terminal degree (JD/ PhD)
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines;
  • Ability and commitment to handle privileged information in a professional and confidential manner; and
  • Self-starter and independent worker comfortable with working in a variety of settings with culturally-diverse persons and communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
