We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Welder to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 675 Los Esteros Road in San Jose and limited job-related travel may be required.
Position Summary:
GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of Welder to provide support to one or more facilities. This role’s main function will is responsible for fixing and maintaining equipment used in the collection and processing of material collected by GreenWaste. This requires prioritizing safety, ability to operate heavy equipment and provide excellent customer service and great quality of work. This role adheres to all applicable company safety policies. This position is responsible for repairing and operating all industrial equipment efficiently while observing all safety protocols that operations run smoothly.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Maintaining trucks, trailers, loaders, forklifts, carts, bins, debris boxes and associated equipment
- Reading and completing appropriate paperwork
- Ability to use electric/acetylene torch
- Take direction from the shop supervisor
- Wear assigned uniform and PPE to ensure safety.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work well with other employees in a team environment and communicate to ensure safety
- Must have basic familiarity with all equipment maintained by GreenWaste
- Must be able to perform basic equipment maintenance and repair procedures
- Must be able to work with little or no supervision in a safe and productive manner
Qualifications:
- Must have at least 2 years of previous mechanical experience with similar equipment
- Class A or B license preferred
Language Skill:
- Proficiency in English and/or Spanish (written and spoken)
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time
- Must be capable of lifting arms above shoulder level and work in that position for extended periods of time
- Must be able to work in limited spaces
- Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50lbs.
- Must be able to work in kneeling or prone position for extended periods of time
- Must be able to bend/twist freely at neck and waist
- Must be capable of simple grasping with both hands
- Must be capable of simple grasping, power grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling, reaching above shoulders and below waist with both hands
- Must be capable of driving and operating multiple types of fleet vehicles including forklifts
- Must be able to crawl under and inside equipment to locate and work on problems
Work Environment:
Typical work week is Monday through Friday and half day on Saturday. Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions/dust, fumes, and chemicals. Ability to work in setting with frequent changes in equipment, start/end time, based on the operational needs for the day and or week. Must work around heavy equipment. Must be able to walk on uneven ground when repairing equipment. May be exposed to loud noise from fleet and equipment. May be exposed to high and low temperatures when working inside or outdoors. Must be able to work at heights when working on top of equipment.
