DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Review inventory levels daily
- Thorough analysis of customer requirements and internal/external lead-times, maintain balanced inventory to maximize turns, satisfy customer demands, and enhance profit
- Review and drive resolution of slow-moving and obsolete inventory
- Develop and communicate strategies to ensure inventory is maintained at appropriate levels to maximize pick-up opportunities and production efficiencies
2. Place/change purchase orders and set up new Base Items as needed
- After analyzing customer forecast information and approved vendors, examine profit margin and compare pricing to ensure maximum return
- Review and gather information regarding status of PO, finished goods and options; provide analysis to sales department; work together to make decisions to meet customer requirements
- Expedite orders based on activity and customer needs when necessary; use resources to develop coverage plans when primary vendor fails
- Document detailed information about order changes
- Consult with metallurgist regarding new items or grade requirements; ensure that raw material meets customer specifications
3. Effectively interact with and communicate with Vendors, Inside Sales, Outside Sales, Tech Services, Operations, Accounting, and Management daily
- Work with Sales department to develop strategies for adequately covering customer requirements
- Communicate lead-times and any delays in expected material arrival; provide coverage options to meet customer requirements
- Work with Operations to develop strategies for maximized yield and minimized scrap
4. Detail and document all responses, requests or follow ups
5. Review Mill status daily to follow material flow
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to correctly retrieve and input data in computer
- Ability to closely analyze information
- Basic mathematics, reading, writing and data entry skills
- Ability to understand all requirements of production
- Problem solving skills with respect to maximizing the efficiencies of the equipment and maintaining customer satisfaction
- Organization and attention to detail are required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Prefer an Associate’s degree in Accounting or appropriate field with one year of purchasing/inventory experience in a production environment. Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This work is performed in an office setting with minimal to moderate noise due to computers, printers, and people.
