Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to weld or tack weld metal parts together using spot welding, electric or gas welding equipment. Openings on 2nd shift, Mon-Fri, 3-11:30pm.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works to supply products and services that meet or exceed the customers’ expectations. Follows the documented quality systems and processes to satisfy our customers’ needs.
  • Reads and understands documents related to the function. This can include, but is not limited to drawings, nests, utilization reports, diagrams, and work instructions.
  • Handles and moves various materials from staging and stock locations to designated locations using a forklift, overhead crane, or other devices.
  • Sets up, operates, and tends machines needed to fabricate parts to specified dimensions. This includes welding equipment, fabricating equipment, and various machine tools and cutting equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Records daily production activity.
  • May assist supervisors or other managers in other duties or special projects as needed.

Critical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Performing General Physical Activities: Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment: Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, overhead cranes, or passenger vehicles.
  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates: Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Handling and Moving Objects: Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating items.
  • Safety and Security; Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective safety for the protection of people and property.
  • Controlling Machines and Processes: Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Tools: Personal protective equipment (hard hats, safety glasses, etc.) tape measure, banding equipment, grinders, grease gun, air gun, forklift, overhead cranes, and other applicable equipment.

Qualifications

  • This position requires the individual to have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); 6 months previous work-related experience; or a combination of education and experience.

Preferences

  • Prior experience with forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • MIG welding experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Working Environment and Conditions

  • Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and be able to communicate verbally and in writing and take direction. The employee is frequently required to be in a stationary position, move about the buildings, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The individual will be performing physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and movement of the whole-body involving things such as lifting, balancing, moving, stooping, and handling of materials. The individual will frequently operate heavy machinery and use eye-hand coordination. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employees in this position may have to work overtime and weekends during busy periods or large fabrication jobs.
