Assistants are responsible for helping all team members to provide the best care possible--with tasks which may include seating a team-member’s next patient, taking radiographs (as needed), cleaning and preparing rooms, etc. Dental assistants are crucial to ensuring the schedule flows, recognizing the impact their role has in contributing to a smooth and enjoyable office setting. They should be versatile, flexible, with a demonstrated ability to provide support for anticipated needs.
An essential characteristic of a TPDA Dental Assistant is attitude. Maintaining a positive attitude and taking the opportunity to seek the good in each situation is vital. TPDA has no place for negativity, or any behavioral issues which may attempt to hinder a positive workplace environment.
A dental assistant should be eager to learn new skills. Whether managing a Google document for the team, or learning to scan an impression rather than taking an alginate one--continuous opportunities for development should be welcomed. There are constantly new digital technologies to learn. New tasks and challenges are to be embraced with a growth mindset.
A Dental Assistant supports the doctor with all treatment procedures (4 handed dentistry) and performs all duties within their scope. A dental assistant has some opening and closing responsibilities; including maintaining sterilization, and ensuring OSHA and HIPAA compliance. They also assist in equipment maintenance.
