 Department: SecondaryJob Description                                                                                                                                                                         JD – STACTitle: Secondary Teacher and Coach         Job Summary:As a Secondary Teacher and Coach at Midland Christian School you will have the unique opportunity to not only inspire students academically but also guide them athletically and spiritually. In this dual role, you will be responsible for providing quality instruction in the classroom while also leading and mentoring student-athletes on the field or court.   • Current Teaching Certification

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Past experience as a teacher.
  • Experience coaching at the secondary level, preferably in a school setting.

  • The role of a Secondary Teacher and Coach at a Private Christian School involves both physical and mental exertion, requiring dedication, resilience, and a commitment to the holistic development of students.

Essential Functions
Essential functions of this position include the following.  Employees in this position perform some or all of the following functions.  Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Curriculum Development:
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with the school’s standards and faith-based principles.
  • Plan engaging lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Incorporate Bible stories, faith-based values, and character education into daily lessons.
  1. Classroom Management:
  • Establish and maintain a positive and supportive classroom conducive to learning and spiritual growth.
  • Implement effective behavior management strategies rooted in faith-based principles.
  • Foster a sense of community and belonging among students through collaborative activities and teamwork.
  1. Instruction and Assessment:
  • Deliver instruction using a variety of instructional strategies and resources.
  • Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to support their academic and spiritual growth.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
  1. Coaching
  • Lead and mentor student-athletes in your designated sport, providing instruction, guidance, and support in both skill development and character formation.
  • Plan and Conduct regular practices, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Represent the school with integrity and sportsmanship at games, competitions, and events.
  1. Spiritual Development
  • Lead daily prayer/devotional time, integrating biblical teachings into classroom discussions.
  • Model Christ-like behavior and values through actions and interactions with students. Exemplary behavior and character consistent with Christian values, serving as a positive role model for students both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Facilitate opportunities for students to explore and deepen their faith.
  1. Parent Communication and Collaboration:
  • Establish open and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior and classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with parents/guardians to support student learning and spiritual development.
  • Organize and participate in parent-teacher conferences and other school events.
  1. Professional Development:
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
  • Stay updated on current instructional strategies and best practices in education and faith-based pedagogy.
  • Incorporate Bible stories, Christian values, and character education into daily lessons.
  1. Professional Responsibilities:
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administrators regarding academic progress, athletic performance and any concerns or issues.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure a cohesive educational experience and a supportive school community.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as required.
  • Attend work regularly and is punctual.
  • Serve at extra-curricular events as needed
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and growth in both teaching and coaching roles.
  1. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
