Job Description

Summary

Plans, directs, and implements safety program to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment through education, training, inspections, and installation of appropriate safety measures to prevent or mitigate unsafe conditions. Provides leadership, innovation solutions, governance, and management oversight necessary to identify, evaluate, monitor, and mitigate the Casino’s safety risks. Vested with authority to require adherence to safety protocols and administer authorized Safety Notice of concerns within departments for effective safety measures.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Design & coordinate the implementation of the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan to include but not be limited to safety programs such as: Hazard Communication Program, Exposure Control Program, Respiratory Protection Program, Confined Space Entry Program, Heat Illness Prevention Plan, and other Casino and OSHA required health, wellness, and safety programs.
  • Maintain and oversees TORT process.
  • Draft safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular reviews of all plans and update as needed.
  • Conduct regular inspections of employee work areas, report potential hazards to the appropriate department for repairs, and follow-up to ensure unsafe conditions are addressed to prevent or mitigate workplace injuries.
  • Conduct regular safety committee meetings to provide training and materials to department safety representatives.
  • Coordinate and track all safety training as required (new hire, transfers, promotions, new equipment, new processes, annual safety reviews, etc.), and collaborate with HR
  • Training as needed.
  • Assist in reviewing, maintaining, updating and document employee injury reports as needed for completeness. Maintain statistical data of employee injuries for the purpose of monitoring trends, root cause analysis, and creating awareness. Conduct follow-up meetings with injured employees’ managers for training and corrective actions.
  • Conduct review of video documentation (CCTV) provided by Surveillance.
  • Conduct accident and injury investigations and partner with Human Resources to assist with claims management, recommend corrective measures regarding equipment and processes, identify training needs, and provide training to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure that training, injuries, and incidents are recorded accurately as well as maintaining accurate OSHA 300 log appropriately for filing and posting.
  • Ensure that a regular inventory of the first aid kits are being conducted throughout the property to maintain supplies, and gather documentation of use and retain.
  • Monitor operations and policies to ensure compliance with all governing agencies and make recommendations for updates and changes as necessary.
  • Manages and develops Safety Coordinator
  • Must be physically present to work a regular, reliable, and predictable work schedule in accordance with business demands, and maintain a consistent and regular attendance record. Perform special projects and other responsibilities, tasks, or duties as requested.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assist with training new employees.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and guidance to departmental staff.
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; complete safety training and certifications.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others; support team to reach common goals.
  • Ensure a high standard of appearance, hospitality and service in team members.

  • Participate in open communication and provide feedback to management regarding operations, staffing, personal development, and operational productivity.
  • Serve as a contributing Team Member of the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians enhancing the Casino’s operations in all its business endeavors.

Education / Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Two (2) or four (4) year college degree in related studies, preferred.
  • Three (3) plus years of experience in industrial safety, workers’ compensation management, or a related field, required.
  • Two (2) plus years safety training experience, required.
  • Knowledge of fire codes, required.
  • Two (2) plus years of supervisory experience, preferred.
  • Must be knowledgeable of OSHA standards and compliance.
  • Must be able to provide evidence of eligibility to work in the United States of America.

Certificates, licenses and registration

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Soboba Tribal Gaming Commission license.
  • Required to submit to and obtain negative results on all drug and/or alcohol testing.
  • OSHA 30 Certification Minimum Required
  • Safety and Health Certification, can be obtained within the first year of employment
