Senior Accountant

Venture Metals + is a fast-growing, leader in the metal recycling company looking to expand our Accounting Department with an experienced, qualified, and reliable full time Senior Accountant.

At Venture Metals + we purchase, process, broker and market a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals while maintaining the highest standard of safety, sustainability and quality. The industries we serve include automotive, aerospace, oil/gas/energy, utility, communication, machinery, construction and demolition.

The successful candidate will report to the Controller in this crucial supporting position in a fast-paced centralized accounting team.

Responsibilities:

• Reconcile and analyze approximately 90% of the balance sheet accounts which consist of miscellaneous receivables, fixed assets, accrued others, and intangibles.
• Fixed asset accounting includes Construction in Progress and related reclasses to fixed asset account. This position will maintain the fixed asset subledgers by plant/location.
• Confirm balance sheet reconciliations performed by others and are completed monthly.
• Conduct monthly meeting to review reconciliations with Controller.
• Review and analyze SG&A expenses, concentrating on odd trends and fluctuations.
• Books accruals and reclasses as necessary.
• Book balance sheet entries such as amortization and prepaids.
• Book recurring P&L entries such as interest, fees, and insurance.
• Attend month-end close meetings and report on findings.
• Report SG&A to department heads for their applicable departments. Work with department heads on proper coding.
• Support Controller with various financial reporting needs, including quarterly lender reporting.
• Prepare monthly capital spend reporting for all entities and plants.
• Ad hoc reporting requests.
• Assist with the preparation of the SG&A budget.
• Analyze actual expenses compared to budget and report on variances.

Education, Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• 4 year accounting degree preferred (or 2 year degree with several years of verifiable accounting experience)
• Background in oil and gas, commodities, or manufacturing, preferred but not required.
• High degree of accuracy with data entry & attention to detail.
• 3-5 years accounting experience
• Public accounting experience a plus

Knowledge:

• Microsoft Dynamics GP or large ERP experience
• General understanding of GAAP
• Microsoft Office (Intermediate to Advanced Excel)
• Self-motivated and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with heavy work volume.
• Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines with effective organizational, stress and time management skills.
