Position Description: If you love working with elementary school age children, the YMCA may have the perfect opportunity for you! Throughout the community, the YMCA operates before and after school programs for kids on several public school campuses. We are looking for individuals who relate well to children and who can make a real impact in their lives. Each day, our child care team members assist children with homework, lead children in sports and recreational activities, engage children in enrichment and STEAM projects and help children thrive. At the Y, we provide a safe and quality after school program experience for all youth, that focuses on building achievement, belonging and strong relationships in youth. In this role, you will also support the Site Director, including providing oversight (being their eyes and ears), when they are away from the center. This role also includes some administrative tasks, as well as working with a group of up to 14 children after school.

  • Part-Time, seasonal position, approximately 25 hours per week. This position is seasonal and school days only.
  • During school breaks like summer, spring or winter break (or non-school days when the YMCA is providing full-day care), may take on additionally hours and work as a day camp counselor or, if desired, you can be off on non-school days and during school breaks. May be the perfect working hours for a student wanting more flexibility during the breaks or a caregiver who wants to be off while their children are off. In addition to regular work shift, there are trainings, special events and professional development sessions that take place during the year. All trainings are paid.
  • During school days, hours are typically Monday-Friday, 1:30pm-6:30pm.
  • Free facility access to our 26 greater Los Angeles branches for you, your spouse or domestic partner and for your minor children (this includes FREE access to our fitness center, gym, weight room, indoor/outdoor pools, group exercise classes, on-site child care, etc.)
  • Free before and after school child care for your age-eligible children in grades TK-5th (some sites accept up to 6th grade), at one of our before and after school sites. Restrictions apply. Not all before and after school sites are within close proximity to a YMCA branch. Inquire for details.
  • Free youth sports league and youth classes enrollment for your age-eligible minor children.

Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years-old or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 12 qualifying units* and 6 months of experience working with School-Age children.
  • Proof of vaccination or immunization to pertussis/whooping cough and measles (TDAP), or willing to complete within 7 days of hire.
  • Current TB Test and Health Screening (upon hire, all new employees have access to complete a free TB test and health screening through our medical partners, Concentra).

Hourly Salary
  • $18.28/Hour
