Job Summary:

As a Lifeguard Instructor, you will be responsible for all of the instruction and administrative tasks before/during/after class, and the leadership, supervision, control, and safety of all class participants. The lifeguard instructor is responsible for the appearance, presentation, and working order of all materials and equipment used for lifeguard instruction. It is the lifeguard instructor's responsibility to observe and direct all class participants, and to provide feedback and appropriate correction as instructed or included in the job description.

The Lifeguard Instructor is also responsible for maintaining and following all Bennington policy and procedures established in the Handbook.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Instructor Duties:
   1. Conduct lifeguard certification classes in accordance with recognized American Red Cross standards and guidelines.
   2. Teach participants essential lifeguarding skills, such as water rescue techniques, CPR, first aid, and AED operation.
   3. Demonstrate professionalism and expertise in lifeguarding to inspire and instruct students effectively.
2. Class Preparation:
   1. Ensure all class materials and documents have the correct information: dates, locations, times.
   2. Follow the guided lessons through the ARC LGI Manual.
   3. Ensuring all proper Lifeguard materials and equipment are present, safe, clean, and ready for the class.
3. Assessment and Evaluation:
   1. Administer written and practical exams to assess the knowledge and skills of participants.
   2. Provide constructive feedback to help participants improve their performance and meet certification requirements.
4. Safety and Emergency Response:
   1. Instruct students in recognizing and responding to water-based emergencies.
   2. Demonstrate and train students in proper water rescue techniques and first aid procedures.
5. Administrative Tasks:
   1. Make sure all participants are accounted for with appropriate documentation.
   2. Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and certification records.
   3. Complete necessary paperwork, including certification documentation, incident reports, and class evaluations.
   4. Communicate effectively and efficiently with all participants, parents/guardians and Bennington team.
6. Continued Professional Development:
   1. Stay updated on the latest lifeguarding techniques, industry standards, and certification requirements.
   2. Participate in ongoing training to maintain and improve your own skills.
   3. Provide onsite audits and training to our lifeguards to make sure they are fresh on their safety skills, pool cleanliness, and professionalism in the work environment.

Skills and Qualifications:

1. Current Red Cross LGI Certification is preferred.
2. Previous experience as a lifeguard and lifeguard instructor is preferred.
3. Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.
4. Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing or walking for various lengths of time.
5. Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to various locations.

Working Conditions:

1. Part-time position with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
2. Work is primarily conducted in an indoor or outdoor aquatic facility.
3. Ability to stand for extended periods and demonstrate lifeguarding skills required.
