Frontend Software Engineer

Mine Vision Systems (MVS) is dedicated to providing advanced workflow-integrated perception and automation systems which improve speed, safety and productivity for the mining industry. We are a spinout from Carnegie Mellon University’s National Robotics Engineering Center, and are located in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood. Following the successful product launch of our FaceCapture™ Mapping System, we are in a growth mode and we are seeking a Frontend Software Engineer to join our team.

As a Frontend Software Engineer you will be responsible for designing, implementing, simulating, testing, and iteratively refining user interfaces for integrated robotic systems used in mining applications. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Design and implement a robust and responsive frontend architecture to facilitate creating clear and engaging user interfaces.
• Rigorously test and validate solutions under a wide range of real-world conditions and customer processes.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers and product management on design changes.
• Troubleshoot and debug application in response to customer support calls.
• Monitor and improve front-end performance.
• Willingness to learn new skills and develop some familiarity with the work of the other engineers, which will be useful for code review and group discussion. This includes the ability to evaluate new features and estimate effort during sprint planning
• Travel up to 5% to work sites beyond the corporate office

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with the design, development, testing, and support of scalable JavaScript applications deployed to production
• Experience building UI solutions using JavaScript and TypeScript
• Experience with React, Next.js, Angular, Vue or similar libraries/frameworks
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and/or similar databases.
• Familiarity with SQL
• Experience working independently and as part of an agile team
• Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to deliver best-in-class software products
• Comfortable with Git and/or other version control workflows.
• Experience with Linux
• Experience with graphics & visualization libraries such as D3 or ThreeJS preferred
• Experience writing OpenGl/WebGl shaders, a nice to have
• Experience with UI performance measurement and optimization preferred
• Knowledge of Python preferred 
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices for full software development life cycle including task breakdown, scheduling, unit testing, code reviews, documentation, and version control
• High initiative, seeking continuous improvement, actively engaged in problem solving
• Excellent analysis, prioritization, decision-making, and implementation skills with a high level of personal responsibility
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics or related field
• Demonstrated related experience may be substituted for preferred education
