TITLE: Assistant General Manager

TYPE: Full-Time, Exempt

COMPENSATION: $50,000 - $60,000 annual salary + bonus potential

LOCATION: Hotel Tango Fletcher Place Tasting Room

SUPERVISOR: Tasting Room General Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Assistant General Manager is responsible for assisting in leading the day-to-day operations of the Tasting Room as part of the Hotel Tango Distillery business. This role will be responsible, but not limited to, all aspects of tasting room operations, team leadership, and cross-collaboration with other departments to ensure successful Tasting Room Operations. The Assistant General Manager should be proactive in day-to-day and long-term tasks, be an effective communicator, customer-service driven and detail-oriented. The Assistant General Manager should be able to organize and prioritize competing priorities and delegate to Tasting Room staff to ensure successful business operations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Team Management

    • Interview, train, develop, and manage a team of 15-20 front and back of house hourly staff

    • Provide ongoing communication via pre-shifts, post-shifts, phone, and email ensuring all staff have appropriate information, including changes in procedures, staffing, schedules and product offerings

    • Follow GM schedule ensuring that a manager is on-site in the Tasting Room throughout peak service times ensuring customer service standards are met and providing staff support

    • Ensure that Tasting Room daily operations are staffed appropriately, filling in as needed

    • Ensure that staff are properly trained to execute daily operations in the Tasting Room, stepping in to provide spot training as necessary

    • Guide staff in successful execution of customer service initiatives; including proper greet times, story telling, making recommendations, table maintenance, upselling and table closing

    • Ensure real-time customer satisfaction with table touching, solving customer complaints and staff coaching

    • Tactfully address staff disciplinary issues and to coach performance; differentiating between a “training miss” and a disciplinary moment

    • Maintain Tasting Room staff morale and experience- aligning with company culture and branding

    • Enforce federal, local health, safety codes, and security policies ensuring a safe working environment

  • Tasting Room Operations

  • Field initial Tasting Room event inquiries and coordinate all aspects of event operations, ensuring successful execution and client satisfaction

  • Maintain cash sales in the Tasting Room and submit cash deposits to the finance department

  • Maintain accurate inventory of Tasting Room supplies, equipment, and spirits ensuring proper par levels

  • Update Toast POS software with new menu and packages as required

  • Organize and record staff tips and make time card corrections in ADP for GM approval

  • Facilitate bi-annual beverage ideation, implementation and staff training

  • Address or direct facility maintenance issues to the appropriate parties

  • Interdepartmental Collaboration

    • Coordinate with Marketing Team to generate POS materials for the Tasting Room
    • Coordinate with Marketing Team on social media announcements and postings for the Tasting Room
    • Coordinate with Kitchen Supervisor to facilitate ongoing food ideation
    • Coordinate with Assistant General Manager on event specific cocktail needs
    • Coordinate with Lead Mixologist in facilitating and planning Hotel Tango experience events

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Because of the nature of this position, candidate must be 21 years of age or older

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business management or similar field preferred

  • Sufficient experience will be considered in lieu of a degree

  • Willingness to work during peak hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays

  • Valid liquor license, server training certification, and safe serve food manager, or ability to attain one

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record

  • Ability to bend, walk, stand, and occasionally lift/carry items weighing 50+ pounds

  • SKILLS

    • Excellent computer, problem-solving, and customer service skills

    • Effectively delegate responsibilities and maximize resources

    • Possess a strong understanding of Social Media platforms and how to use effectively

    • Decisiveness--ability to lead staff and make decisions

    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • EXPERIENCE

    • 3+ years of supervisory/management experience in a similar position required
    • 5+ years of food & beverage experience in a restaurant or bar environment required
    • Experience with Toast POS system required
    • Experience with or ability to learn various technology platforms such as website maintenance, Canva, Triple Seat, Square etc. required
    • Experience working with budgets and understanding of general accounting principles preferred
    • Experience in developing cocktail menus and beverage programs preferred
    • Experience with or ability to learn food and beverage technology platforms
    • Experience in decision making, process improvement, event planning, verbal communication, strong customer focus, management proficiency, quality focus
  • 90 DAY PERFORMANCE GOALS:
    • Demonstrate ability to independently manage business operations in the absence of GM

    • Demonstrate working knowledge of POS systems, technology platforms, and general open/close procedures in the absence of GM

    • Demonstrate ability or aptitude for social media, including wit, humor, playfulness, and marketing savvy
