ROLE MISSION 
The Senior Battery Materials Engineer will report directly to the CTO and is entrusted with the mission to lead and inspire technological excellence, propelling ADVANO to the forefront of innovation in the battery materials and energy storage space, with a specific focus on advancing REALSi technologies.  

The mission of this position is to develop and optimize carbon scaffolds for hosting silicon materials, aligning with the company’s overarching business strategic goals. As a team member, you will lead efforts in developing these carbon scaffolds. Your responsibilities include identifying and sourcing new or alternative carbon precursors to enhance silicon performance. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with external parties to secure necessary material supplies for product development. Extensive experience in carbon material formation and characterization, along with a deep understanding of polymer and organic chemistry concepts, is essential.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Advanced Degree in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering or related field +5 years of experience is required; and 5 years of relevant work experience in the active anode or battery industry will be considered. 

  • Proficiency in carbon material formation and characterization, specializing in the development of carbon scaffold to host silicon materials. 

  • Strong understanding of polymer and organic chemistry concepts. 

  • Demonstrated laboratory skills, including experimental design and execution. 

  • Familiarity with battery material synthesis and characterization techniques. Skilled in analyzing electrode performances and identifying correlations with materials and process parameters, taking independent steps to improve processes to meet target performance matrix. 

  • In-depth understanding of battery materials, interfaces, electrolytes, and electrochemistry to advance mechanistic understanding of battery performance. 

  • Capable of interpreting analytical and electrochemical cell test data to establish relationships between processes and properties. 

  • Entrepreneurial “out of the box” thinker who is creative, responsive, flexible, and able to productively challenge business paradigms. 

  • Broad based knowledge of silicon anode materials and applications, preferably with a global perspective to effectively interact within an international marketplace with diverse internal drivers for change. 

  • Strong ability to influence technical and business team and get consensus about the decisions taken. 

  • Market know-how, good expertise of silicon material applications in li-ion batteries. 

  • Proven interpersonal skills and successful key partnering demonstrated at all levels of the organization. 

  • Proven ability to communicate with all levels of the management team, effectively listen and incorporate ideas into better solutions ensuring the achievement of company and functional goals.  

  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills for clarity with succinct delivery of messages for organizational alignment.
