JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Rehab OT is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating rehabilitation programs, services and personnel in a manner that supports the goals of the designated facility while meeting federal and state regulations and the state specific practice acts for Occupational Therapy. The Director of Rehab OT is responsible for direct patient care delivery in their discipline and will demonstrate a positive attitude and team building approach with all patients, clients, and team members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage the rehabilitation program for the facility or designated facilities.
- Manage rehab staffing levels and patient care levels to meet clinical and operational needs
- Ensure ongoing rollout of new policies and procedures to departmental staff
- Participate in facility performance improvement program
- Participate in RAI process, coding and signing assigned MDS items
- Participate in facility marketing activities as indicated
- Display appropriate written and verbal communication skills and respond in a timely manner
- Ensure ongoing communication with patients, clients and team members in order to keep them informed of key issues and program development opportunities, and to maintain strong customer relations at all times
- Manage productivity standards to meet clinical and operational goals.
- Evaluate and provide counseling to team members
- Review the medical records ensuring federal and state requirements and conditions of participation for Medicare, Medicaid and other alternative payment models met
- Implement appropriate facility procedures to meet facility standards
- Consistently attend work and provide appropriate notice for scheduled vacations
- Demonstrates consistent knowledge and application of Medicare and other reimbursement regulations
- Deliver direct patient care in the appropriate discipline
- Facilitate appropriate utilization and appearance of rehabilitation space
- Monitor that a preventative maintenance program is in place for the equipment utilized within the department and report any problems to the appropriate personnel
- Communicate effectively with patients, clients and team members regarding specific programs, goals, objectives, problems and successes
- Ensures complete orientation to the department and facility and ongoing training of the rehab staff including departmental specifics and work injury prevention
- Ensure accuracy and reconciliation of billing data in accordance with billing deadlines
- Review and monitor revenue and expenses and initiate appropriate action plans to ensure budget goals are met or exceeded
- Actively participate in the recruitment, hiring and orientation of new staff.
- Model appropriate professional behavior and act as a mentor to team members
- Review documentation practices for clarity, conciseness, and consistency with patient outcome goals
- Ensure, communicate, and coordinate departmental functions in a constructive manner that helps build team rapport and effectiveness through compassion
- Understand and adhere to the guidelines of “Residents Rights” and assure resident safety
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy school
- Current Occupational Therapist license
- Ability to understand, remember and carry out verbal or written instructions in English
- Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner
- Ability to be flexible and positive with intermittent interruptions
Preferred
- 3 years of clinical experience with some prior management experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to move (walk, stoop, bend, stand, sit push, pull, lift) intermittently throughout the workday
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
- Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of this position can be fully met
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients/residents, personnel, and support agencies
- Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility
- Must be able to lift patients/residents, medical equipment, supplies, etc. to 50 lbs.
WORK SCHEDULE: As assigned, including some weekends, evenings and holidays
