JOB DESCRIPTION FOR THRIFT STORE MANAGER

Introduction:

The Society for St. Vincent de Paul, as founded by Fredrick Ozanam, is an international Catholic organization of lay persons whose purpose is to help the less fortunate through person-to-person contact with those in need of spiritual or material assistance. The Thrift Store serves as the structure to support those in our community by offering low-cost clothing and other household items.

The incumbent of this job description reports directly to the Executive Director.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

Summary:

The Thrift Store Manager is responsible for facilitating and supervising daily operations at a store to make sure that employees work together effectively to make sales and contribute to shop upkeep. Their duties include communicating with donors & vendors, scheduling employee shifts and training new employees. The Thrift Store Manager is responsible for managing a retail store, which includes overseeing sales, staff, and inventory.

Experience:

The experience requirements we are looking for include several years in retail, either as an Assistant Manager or Salesclerk. The ideal candidate will have a combination of experience including supervision, sales, customer service, security and general office or accounting work.

Training:

St. Vincent de Paul will provide orientation training regarding the organization and leadership orientation provided by the Executive Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervising daily store operations to ensure sales targets and customer service standards are met.
• Managing staff, including scheduling shifts, training new employees, and overseeing their work.
• Maintaining inventory levels, ordering new stock, and managing vendor relationships.
• Developing strategies for store promotions, especially during peak shopping seasons.
• Ensuring the store's presentation and cleanliness are maintained at high standards.
• Handling customer inquiries, complaints, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Overseeing store budgets and financial planning to ensure profitability.
• Supervise, train, and assist employees like Sales Representatives and Retail Store Clerks in customer service, store maintenance and product promotions.

Skills and Qualifications:
• Proven experience in retail management, with a track record of meeting sales goals.
• Strong leadership abilities to motivate and mentor the team.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Familiarity with budgeting and financial planning.
• A degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours) with reasonable breaks.
• Must have the ability to kneel, bend, squat and carry a load up to 25 pounds.

Probationary Period:

New employees will be required to serve a one (1) year probationary period, during this time employees are not eligible for holiday pay. At the end of the one (1) year probationary period employees will receive holiday pay when their schedule workday falls on a paid holiday.

Leave and Benefits:

Dental and vision insurance is offered to employees, at a cost, once they have been employed 90 days. Supplemental insurance (AFLAC and Colonial) is also offered at this 90-day point. Paid time off (PTO) will start to accrue after one (1) year of continuous service and is earned at a rate based on length of service. Sick leave begins to accrue at time of hire. The accrual rate is one (1) hour for every 40 hours worked and sick leave may not be used until the employee has 90 days of continuous service.
