Outpatient Staff Physical Therapist

About our practice:

Located in a growing city close to Lake Pontchartrain we are a physical therapist - owned outpatient orthopedic physical therapy clinic in Slidell, Louisiana. We are very busy, fully staffed with a front desk person, rehab technician, and a Senior Physical Therapist.

As our new outpatient Staff Physical Therapist, you will hold a vital position in the company. We have created a culture of caring for the patient and making them feel welcome. In our company culture we listen to the patient to hear what their concerns are and we address these concerns on a daily basis. This position takes the lead on continuing this culture of making the patient feel welcome, heard, and addressing their concerns.

We currently see a variety of orthopedic physical therapy patients from the high school age patient to the senior patient. At the clinic we are focused on achieving excellent patient results. We run the business side of things so you can focus on being a Physical Therapist, focused on treating our patients.

Your mission:

A background or strong interest in outpatient orthopedics is preferred. You will be expected to give high quality care/treatment to 60 patients per week. It is important to achieve the results that are important to the patient to the point that they would return as a patient and refer other friends and family.

Specific responsibilities & duties:

  • Lead the team in making the patient feel important and welcome in the clinic. This is done by showing the patient that we care by being constantly interested in them and by listening to the patient. It is vital that the Physical Therapist lead the team by addressing any patient concerns and handling them as they arise. The Physical Therapist is the lead on maintaining the culture here of constantly encouraging the patient and celebrating their wins.

  • Evaluate the patient and find out how their condition is affecting their life. What are they unable to do and what would they like to be able to return to doing with treatment.

  • Establish a plan of care with frequency and duration. A standard would be 3x a week for 6 weeks. If the condition will take longer to get better, discuss the time frame up front with the patient. For example a rotator cuff repair typically takes 3 to 4 months of outpatient PT to fully recover and return to normal activities.

  • Educate the patient on the initial evaluation of their condition and how the proposed treatment will help them achieve their desired result. Discuss with the patient how pain, range of motion, and strength are all connected. Discuss how the treatment will help them with their pain, range of motion, and strength as appropriate and help them return to doing what they have been unable to do or that they have been having with difficulty or pain.

  • Document fully and sign all initial evaluations, daily notes, MD progress reports, plan of care, and discharge summaries within 24 hours of date of service.

  • Correct all documentation as needed to ensure that the claims are processed correctly.

  • Communicate and direct the rehab technicians to ensure that the plan of care is being followed.

  • Make contact with the patient at the beginning of each session to ask how they are doing and how their condition is doing. If any assessment is needed, handle the assessment and make appropriate changes to their program. Modify the plan of care as needed as patient status changes and communicate/direct the rehab technician appropriately.

  • Physical Therapists will do all modifications to the plan of care and will personally monitor all new additions to the plan of care for quality.

  • Physical Therapists will recognize and celebrate patient wins with the staff. They will have the patient report their win as a success story and this success story will be given to the Patient Care Coordinator to make sure that the provider receives the success story.

  • At discharge the patient will be reevaluated to see if their goals have been met. If the goals have been met the patient will be discharged. If the patient has not met their goals physical therapy will be continued until goals are met.

What are the required technical and/or administrative competencies?

One must have graduated from an accredited physical therapy school. One has to be eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapist or be a licensed Physical Therapist in the State of Louisiana. The Physical Therapist has to be caring and compassionate about helping the patient get better.
