Part-Time Fire and Life Safety Inspector

The Palatine Fire Prevention Division is seeking a part-time Fire Inspector.

Job Description: This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with municipal, state, and national fire and life safety codes through the inspection of buildings and/or other structures before, during, and after construction.

In addition, the part-time Fire Inspector will:

• Work independently scheduling and conducting routine fire and life safety inspections on new and existing occupancies while writing clear and concise reports.
• Conduct scheduled final inspections of fire protection systems.
• Have the ability to read, interpret, and recognize deviation from building plans.
• Maintain an effective working relationship with Village personnel, building/business owners, contractors, and property managers to achieve fire prevention goals.
• Conduct inspections for community events (i.e., festivals, fairs, etc.) including carnivals, tents, and food vendors.
• Investigate/follow up on fire and life safety complaints from the public, Fire Department personnel, and other Village inspectors.
• Proper documentation of inspections using the Fire Prevention inspection platform(s).
• Attend fire and life safety training to maintain certification.

This position may occasionally require working evenings, weekends, or holidays in preparation for special events.

Qualifications:

• Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM) or International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector I preferred.
• Five (5) years of Fire inspection experience.
• Possess a valid driver's license at the time of application.
• Possess a valid Illinois driver's license at the time of hire.

Salary: $30.26 per hour

Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM 2 days a week (1 hour unpaid lunch), 665 hours per year maximum
