General Purpose: The Secondary Art teacher (Grades 7-12) supports our school mission by helping children learn to appreciate art, understand the elements of art, and create art by learning and applying the basic elements and principles to a variety of visual art mediums.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Subject matter knowledge
- Methods and approaches used for drawing: aesthetics of form and space including linear perspective, proportion, value, composition, and line quality.
- Elements of art and the principles of design
- Theories and history of artistic creativity and aesthetics including philosophies of prominent major developments, periods, and artists in Western traditional art and architecture.
- Knowledge of Art History in Western Civilization.
- Artistic development in children and adolescents
- Photography
- Color theory and its application.
- Understanding the elements of 3-D art forms and their creation
- Understand the processes of creating art in a variety of mediums through personal experiences.

Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree, art background preferred.
- Passed the PRAXIS II
Experience:
- Prior teaching experience preferred but not required.
