Job Description
Pennant Solutions Group is in search of a Fire Protection Designer in the Richmond, VA area.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design fire protection systems for a variety of project types, including industrial, commercial, and residential.
- Develop layouts for wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, and deluge fire suppression systems, incorporating domestic infrastructure, fire pumps, and storage tanks.
- Interpret architectural drawings and specifications to create comprehensive fire protection submittal packages in compliance with contract documents, building codes, and NFPA Standards.
- Participate in BIM 3D Modeling coordination.
- Perform hydraulic calculations to ensure system efficacy.
- Conduct field surveys before fabrication.
- Compile stock lists and prepare field installation drawings.
- Generate closeout documents.
- Oversee facility commissioning of fire protection systems and investigate system failures.
- Assist field personnel in resolving design-related installation issues.
- Apply sound fire protection engineering principles to troubleshoot and resolve client-related issues.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of relevant design experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferably in a construction environment).
- Ability to independently complete design projects from start to finish.
- Strong multitasking abilities, able to work with minimal supervision, follow instructions (written and oral), pay attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and research skills, mechanical aptitude, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD drafting software and HydraCAD sprinkler design software.
- Experience with at least one 3D CADD program and BIM.
- Demonstrated experience with large contract work.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Ability to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screening and potentially additional background checks (e.g., DMV, criminal history).
- Adherence to all company policies and procedures.
- Availability to work assigned schedules.
Work Environment:
- Primarily works in a professional office setting using standard office equipment.
- Occasional visits to construction sites may be required.
Travel:
- Infrequent travel may be necessary (typically not overnight).
Preferred:
- Field installation experience.
- NICET Level III certification or higher preferred.
- Knowledge of special suppression systems such as foam, water spray, water mist, clean agent, wet/dry chemical, and carbon dioxide is advantageous.
- Experience with Revit.
- Prior military experience.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
