MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN

(12 Month Project Position)

Salary $49.05 - $54.28 / Hourly

DEFINITION

Under supervision, performs skilled maintenance electrical work and performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Installs, maintains, inspects, and repairs standard electrical equipment and systems; and
• Troubleshoots electrical systems; and
• Maintains an electrical shop; and
• Makes rough sketches and estimates labor and materials for minor electrical installations and repairs; and
• Advises on selection, ordering, and storage of electrical supplies and equipment; and
• Consults with other trades persons; keeps simple records and makes reports; and
• Instructs and leads unskilled assistants.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship, or graduation from a recognized trade school;

WITH three years of experience as a journey-level electrician;

AND possession of a valid California driver's license and have and maintain an insurable driving record.

Bilingual skills in ASL, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese and/or Spanish are a plus.

Equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE OF: Principles, methods, tools, and equipment used in the electrical trade, including safety practices; and knowledge of electrical codes.

SKILL IN: Performing electrical work and in caring for tools, materials and equipment; making rough sketches of minor electrical installations, reading blueprints, and working from plans and specifications; estimating material and labor costs for minor electrical jobs; and keeping simple records and making reports.

ABILITY TO: perform work that requires some physical agility, including the ability to stand and walk, bend over, crawl, climb, reach overhead, crouch, kneel, balance, and push and pull for up to four hours, and other abilities as specified in the State of California Division of Industrial Accidents form RB-91 for this classification. Also requires the ability to follow oral and written directions; instruct and lead unskilled assistants; usage and command of the English language at a level required for successful job performance (or with audio and visual capacities).
