About the opportunity:

The Network Engineering team is passionate about launching new fiber networks, making our existing network more robust, and introducing new network services. You will collaborate with Network Architects and Network Engineers to bring solutions to market through proof of concept, technical analysis, vendor or solution selection, and initial deployment processes.

We're looking for an authority in DNS, DHCP and everything IP needed to deliver internet service to customers in a FTTH/PON environment. Integration and automation tasks will be key as we evaluate new solutions which must seamlessly interoperate with existing infrastructure.

What you'll be doing:
  • Define system objectives by analyzing user requirements and envisioning features and functionality.
  • Assist in the vendor selection process by reviewing RFP/RFI responses and evaluating technical solutions and architectures, specifically in regard to interfaces and integrations.
  • Recommend system solutions by comparing advantages and disadvantages of custom development and purchase alternatives.
  • Build consensus around new solutions working in a multi-functional, collaborative environment.
  • Design, implement, and test scalable, reliable, lasting solutions. Work with Network Operations to turn the solutions over to them for daily operations.
  • Provide support to Network Operations when they need help solving problems with applications and servers.
  • Configures vital hardware or virtual machines and Proxmox operating environments as needed.
  • Performs production installations and upgrades of server software products.
  • Work with our SaaS teams to optimize the provisioning and management of our XGS-PON systems
What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent work experience.
  • 7 years of Linux systems engineering and automation experience.
  • Strong operational and functional understanding of DNS, DHCP, NTP, RADIUS, etc, including designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient with bash, Python, Javascript or similar scripting language.
  • Experience working with third party APIs.
  • Experience with system automation tools, such as Puppet, SaltStack, Chef, or Ansible.
  • Experience with at least one major public or private cloud services platform such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OpenShift, or OpenStack.
  • Knowledge of operational telemetry and OSS strategies, including but not limited to log aggregation tools, wire capture tools, application performance monitoring and management tools, and host-based/systems monitoring software, including dashboard creation.
  • Extensive experience packaging and delivering software to a production environment.
  • Experience with software source control tools such as GitHub.
  • Experience supporting HAProxy, InfluxDB, Grafana, ActiveMQ, Artemis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively translate sophisticated topics to non-technical individuals.

A little more about you:
  • Experience with database technologies.
  • Experience with GPON, XGS-PON and NG-PON2 access technologies in Calix, Nokia, or Adtran environments.
  • Experience with IP routing/switching and Juniper or Cisco technologies.
What we offer:
  • Salary range from $88,300K to 132,400K per annum

This role is 100% remote, and hours are reasonably flexible. Minimal travel may be encouraged, although this doesn't apply during a global pandemic. Members of the team are typically located in the United States, although peer teams have members in Europe. While not typical, it is possible to occasionally have meetings with other teams outside of a typical 9-5 schedule.
