Social Impact & Sustainability Manager


Position Overview

The Social Impact + Sustainability Manager will be responsible for fundraising and execution in support of LifeStraw’s social, humanitarian, and sustainability goals. This role will ensure adequate fundraising to support LifeStraw’s disaster response and humanitarian work, coordinating and working with partners to manage our social impact projects, and ensuring LifeStraw is meeting social and environmental standards including B Corp and Climate Neutral certifications. The Senior Manager will also serve as a thought leader, including drafting content, presenting internally and externally, and representing the LifeStraw Brand.


What You’ll Be Doing – The Essentials


Impact strategy & execution

  • Oversee strategy for maximizing social impact outside of LifeStraw’s Give Back program utilizing our product portfolio to support safe water needs globally.
  • Develop partnerships with grassroots implementers in order to ensure proper delivery and implementation of local programs
  • Make decisions about resource allocations based on need
  • Cultivate a strong emergency response eco-system of partners and promote response work locally and globally
  • Support training and education of partners for implementation of programs
  • Coordinate with supply chain teams to mobilize shipments of products

Fundraising+ Budget Tracking

  • Set strategies to increase fundraising and corporate partnerships, executing a multifaceted approach to increasing LifeStraw’s Safe Water Fund budget.
  • Develop annual strategic fundraising plan with forecasted budget including events, swag sales, online fundraisers and potential partnerships.
  • Oversee the social impact budget including monthly tracking of revenue and expenses as well as annual forecasting.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of LifeStraw’s Safe Water Fund including ensuring proper communications to donors through email, and online fundraising sites as well as oversight of invoicing and tracking of expenses

Employee volunteerism

  • Oversee local employee volunteer opportunities
  • Establish relationships with local organizations that align with LifeStraw’s values
  • Work with other offices to coordinate key volunteer and giving moments throughout the year
  • Ensure communication of this work internally and externally

Sustainability goals

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure the brand’s sustainability goals are being met and continue to be pushed forward
  • Establish and lead a holistic platform to ensure environmental stewardship and awareness throughout the organization
  • Work directly with Climate Neutral and additional applicable stakeholders and consultants to measure, and offset company footprint as well as to set and adhere to reductions targets

Communication,education & reporting

  • Create assets for communication of our doing good work to customers and external stakeholders
  • Create and edit copy for website, press releases, responsibility reports, presentations etc.
  • Track progress on numbers served and impact achieved
  • Provide monthly updates to the company on key social impact and sustainability initiatives
  • Motivate employees to engage in and support the company’s social impact and sustainability work.
  • Serve as a thought leader, speaking on behalf of brand and engaging in opportunities to present at conferences, webinars, seeking out awards for social good etc.

Experience and Education Profile

  • Master's degree in international relations, public health, environmental sustainability or fields related to social and environmental impact.
  • 7+ years of experience in social impact and/or sustainability roles either within corporate or non-profit environments.
  • Familiarity with carbon footprint analysis and measurement a plus.
  • Experience working on humanitarian projects internationally, a plus.
  • Experience in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Experience in fundraising a plus.

Essential Physical Demands and Typical Working Conditions

Physical demands include bending, carrying, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking and extremes of temperature and humidity, as well as travel between physical locations. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
