DGA ASG 2023 Summer Associate Program

DGA ASG is accepting summer associate applications for the 2023 session. We are seeking candidates with knowledge of foreign and domestic policy, political economy, and law to work with the following practices: Special Economic Zones (SEZ) and Regulatory Innovation. The summer associate is presumed to be ready and available to step into a full-time role with the organization; assuming this person demonstrated an adequate level of performance. Timeline of the summer program is predicated on many factors, but the overall minimum length is 10 weeks.

About the Practice Group

The SEZ and Regulatory Innovation practice is a new team of creative experts in public policy, political economy, and law who help clients design and re-shape institutions governing cities, special economic zones (SEZs), and innovative policy experiments. The group works across multiple policy areas and geographical regions of the world helping clients develop or amend laws, policies, and organizational structures. Its primary clients include:
  • Investors and developers of new cities and SEZs.
  • Governments pursuing economic development, policy reform, and decentralization projects.
  • NGOs, think tanks, and inter-governmental organizations working on projects related to the group's expertise.

While serving clients on their projects, the SEZ practice also serves as a policy laboratory - developing innovative solutions for addressing issues like housing affordability, criminal justice, refugees, and more at the local, state/province, national, and international levels. Team members have the opportunity to apply knowledge ordinarily reserved for universities and research institutes -- including ideas from the fields of constitutional law and political economics -- to help our clients achieve their objectives and serve the broader public interest.

Responsibilities

Tasks will vary for individual summer associate positions, but all summer associates are asked to contribute, including but not limited to:
  • Research and provide informed advice to assist in the development of regulatory frameworks and in the design of new institutions.
  • Design and execute 1 to 2 strategic projects focused on developing the practice.
  • Analyze legislation and policies and provide analysis and recommendations on how they might be improved.
  • In-depth research and analysis on policy ideas, institutions, current events, and other issues of interest to the firm.
  • Drafting briefing memos, talking points, background materials, and press releases.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks as they arise, including, but not limited to editing of documents, completing expense reports and timesheets, and scheduling meetings.
  • Monitor public source information and international news for issues of relevance to clients.
  • Support marketing, new business development and client expansion efforts.
  • Assist with administrative tasks and perform other duties as assigned.

Summer associates will have the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of activities that should expose them to the foreign and domestic policy decision-making processes and the interplay between governments, NGOs, businesses, and civil society.

Qualifications
  • Must be currently pursuing, or have recently completed, a graduate-level program in law, economics, political science, public policy, or a related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must demonstrate strong research, analysis, and writing abilities.
  • Must be a team player with a can-do attitude and excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to balance multiple assignments and shift priorities on short notice.
  • Experience and ability to work independently.
