POSITION SUMMARY

The Paint Cut Welder will perform detailed layouts based on drawing specifications. They will drill out holes in the body of the apparatus to make way for a variety of different equipment to be installed. Also, they will weld brackets and other metal pieces onto the cab to hold items to be installed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Performs detailed layouts based on drawing specifications.
  2. Drills out holes in the body of the apparatus to make way for a variety of different equipment to be installed.
  3. Welds brackets and other metal pieces onto the cab to hold items to be installed.
  4. Performs an inspection of the cab before any work is done to the cab to make sure that it is correct.
  5. Drill and weld according to the blueprint and specifications book.
  6. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the organization and our members.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED.

Preferred Education:

  • None.

Required Experience:

  • Welding Experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • MIG and TIG Welding experience

Position Requirements:

  • Locate work orders and process them within the time allotment according to the work order, production schedule, and department objectives.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately and precisely.
  • Ability to identify quality issues and recognize changes within ones production process and make the needed adjustments.
  • Able to read and work from blueprints/spec book.
  • Able to follow written and verbal directions and do so with a positive attitude.
  • You recognize the importance and adherence to all safety policies in order to promote a safe working environment, for everyone at the organization.
  • Ability to identify quality issues and recognize changes within ones production process and make the needed adjustments.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well in a team environment.
  • Understand the need to support the organization to work effectively by adhering to the attendance and punctuality standards and does not burden co-workers and supervisors unfairly with unnecessary and unplanned absences and lateness.
  • Communicate progress of project to the appropriate Supervisor or Shift Lead.
  • Basic knowledge of air assisted tools.
  • Able to pass the paint respirator test.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a variety of variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

  • Ability to learn how to run a computer terminal or PC.
  • No prior experience required (incumbent will look up and/or enter information into a pre-formatted screen).

Decision Making:

  • Responsibilities are guided by a set of guidelines that provide methods for problem solving.
  • Decisions are made within these guidelines initially, and a supervisor is informed afterwards.
  • Supervisor regularly reviews the activities to determine if the guidelines have been followed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is in a general shop where different tasks are completed and has access to all welfare facilities. There is no AC located in the shop, so it is usually humid and sometimes wet in the shop. Also, with no AC, it can become extremely hot in the shop during the summer. It is rarely cold in the shop with the bake booth being constantly ran. There is also constant noise with all the machines that are used inside the shop, which can make it difficult to talk or hear. Besides noise, some of the machines produce vibrations when being used. Most of the hazards come from the chemicals in the paint but following proper procedures should minimize risk. There are constant fumes being produced by the pressure pots and spraying of paint causing a lot of airborne particles in the air. Sometimes there can be low light when working on some areas of the truck. Space within the shop can be confined, causing limitations on any movement. When working in this position, there will be times were climbing onto or underneath trucks may be necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires standing, walking, and the use of hands for the entire shift. It can become very loud in the shop with many machines being used at once. With constant noise, talking or hearing can be difficult. During shifts, some projects require the use of hands and fingers for over 60 minutes at a time. This position requires reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling sometimes. The use of feet, knees, legs, back, shoulders, and arms can range from 15 to 60 minutes. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus, and good depth perception. All positions require the ability to lift 50 pounds.
