Firefighter/Paramedic

External and Internal Position Announcement

Position Title:  Full-Time Firefighter Paramedic (non-exempt Position) 

Salary Range: $62,755.20 to $86,825.34

Firefighters shall be compensated on a 96-hour 12-day work period basis equivalent to 2880 hours per year. For firefighters, working 48-hours shifts overtime is based on actual hours worked over 91 in the 12-day work period. Hours worked shall not include vacation, holiday, or sick leave hours.

The salary range stated above is 2880 hours calculated at straight time. Overtime is not added to the calculation, considering the variables.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: 

A. Graduated from high school, or equivalent; AND,

B. Must possess a valid Utah State Driver’s license.  

C. Candidates must be currently licensed as a Paramedic in the State of Utah. 

D.  Candidates must have Utah State Firefighter I & II and Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations within a year of hire. Preference will be given to candidates who are State Firefighter II and Hazardous Materials Operations Certified. 

E.  Must have proof of completion of NIMS certifications IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 or must be completed within 6 months of hire. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

 Respond to emergency medical incidents; treat and render appropriate care for our patients according to protocol; make appropriate transport decisions and safely transport all patients. Ability to follow detailed verbal or written work instructions; work in dangerous emergency situations; perform strenuous physical labor; provide effective verbal and written communications; assimilate and perform modern fire prevention and firefighting skills; perform under extreme weather conditions; work on-call and on-shift work; develop effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees of Clinton City, and the public.

Special Qualifications

Functions of the position are generally in a controlled environment but are subject to all seasonal and weather extremes. Emergency response travel is expected in the normal course of performing duties. Many functions of the work pose a high degree of hazard uncertainty. Physical readiness and conditioning may be a condition of job retention. Various levels of mental application are required, i.e. memory for details, emotional stability, discriminating thinking, creative problem solving, and ability to maintain critical thought and communication at any given time for an extended duration.
