Drain Technician Job Description

The position of Drain Technician is an exciting transition at Z PLUMBERZ as it is the first step of advancement.  Anyone performing this role must be ready to learn, grow and advance within Z PLUMBERZ.  

Drain Technician’s have learned the key essentials to Drain/Sewer Cleaning and have also become a Z PLUMBERZ Certified Sewer and Drain Specialist. The next step in a Drain Tech young career is learning the Plumbing Trade, and will also continue to exercise business, customer service, soft skills, sales and ethics basics. Drain Tech is now eligible to operate Sewer and Drain calls on their own and be added to the On-Call schedule.

Team Member assists a skilled-trades person in all phases of work associated with a particular trade.  This classification involves a three-year supervised training program with the Team Member progressing in one-year increments if performance is satisfactory and license requirements, if any, are met. Credit toward the three-year apprenticeship is given for prior training and/or experience in the trade. 

Qualifications

1. Completion and recipient of Z PLUMBERZ Sewer and Drain Specialist Certification

2. Ability to execute Camera and Locating Equipment

3. Ability to perform Sewer and Drain Cleaning/Repair Tasks

4. Completion and Execution of Z PLUMBERZ Image System and Sales Training

5.  Execution of the following Sewer and Drain tasks: 

1. Pull/Reset Water Closet   

2. Ability to Locate and Identify Sanitary and Storm Sewers  

3. Ability to explain, show comprehension of and build CIPP Liner

4. Ability to locate cleanouts, remove cleanout plugs and replace

5. Identify size of pipes  

Duties of the Job

1. Operates hand tools, power tools, and equipment relevant to selected trade.

2. Performs manual labor associated with the trade.

3. Runs errands, carries and delivers materials, tools and equipment.

4. Cleans tools and equipment.

5. Does skilled trades work commensurate with years of experience as an Apprentice.

6. Other Duties as required

Sales and Service Expectations: $20-25

Sales Minimums do not apply to “On Call or Part time” Drain Techs.  Minimum $80.00 / Hr Productivity / Efficiency Billable Rates 

Not eligible to sell Excavating or Lining

Salary Range and Status

Positions are full time, benefited and hourly.  Hourly rates determined with experience, seniority, qualifications and attitude. Not eligible to sell Excavating or Lining

Working Conditions

A 40+ hour week is typical.  Position may require additional hours during unusual or unforeseen circumstances.  

At the General Manager’s discretion daily hours will vary with business requirements.

Work is mainly outside/warehouse with times that inclement weather and temperature extremes may be required.

Educational Requirements: GED or High School Diploma

Drug/Alcohol Testing/Motor Vehicle Testing

Drug/Alcohol/Background Testing, DMV Checks and background checks are performed prior to employment and at random times, without advance notice, during employment.

Working Relations

Drain Tech is under the technical supervision of the Drain and Sewer Manager then escalates to the General Manager.  Although, may take direction from a Senior Trades Person while being supervised.
