GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Will be responsible for performing various duties related to Nuclear Cardiology testing.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform functional and/or perfusion rest and stress cardiac studies including processing images for physician review.
  • Performs patient care functions as necessary , while demonstrating excellent patient care,
  • Perform daily quality control checks and calibrations on camera and hot lab equipment. Proper document completion and archiving as required by the NRC and NC Radiation Protection Section.
  • Follow radiation safety policies, NRC and NC Radiation Protection Section guidelines for the handling of radioactive pharmaceuticals, including but not limited to conducting daily surveys of hot lab, exam room camera and personnel.
  • Proper handling of radioactive spills with appropriate removal, storage and disposal of decay
  • Explain and obtain informed consent for all testing. Place IV’s as necessary for testing.
  • Administer radiopharmaceuticals as required for testing while complying to proper handling and ALARA techniques.
  • Order, calibrate and inventory radiopharmaceuticals necessary for service.
  • Assist in treadmill and pharmaceutical perfusion testing. Properly place the electrodes and properly operate EKG monitor. Monitor and record patent vital signs during testing procedures.
  • Compile and maintain all department daily paperwork, including the proper handling of HIPPA protected information.
  • Keep open lines of communication with supervising personnel and reading physicians.


EDUCATION:

High School diploma or GED, Must be Board Certified through the AART(N) and/or the NMTCB. Must, maintain licensure through continuing education.


EXPERIENCE:

Minimum three to five years Nuclear Medicine experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of nuclear medicine exam policies, protocols.
  • Knowledge of operating PC and accessing applicable programs.
  • Knowledge of locations and understanding of policies and procedures, patient logs, wipe/survey log and licenses (NRC and state).
  • Skill in obtaining information via computer.
  • Ability to effectively care for patients and families across all points of the adult/adolescent continuum including physiological care, psychosocial care, education, safety and appropriate criteria.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with interdepartmental personnel.
  • Knowledge and ability to comply with all applicable regulatory guidelines in regards to handling and transportation of radioactive materials. Keeping accurate DOT shipping forms (if applicable). Accurate completion of daily log sheets. Cases are secured and restrained in the proper manner to include car restraints, zip ties, spill kit in car, site security and emergency procedure form in front seat of car(if applicable).
  • Q.C. procedures are followed and issues are reported according to PHC protocol, which consists of accurate competition of QC log. Weekly/daily flood bar and COR images. Abnormalities reported on service report form and phoned in to the appropriate staff (when abnormalities are found).
  • Patient preparation protocols are followed according to PHC standards as measured by, correct identification and proper assessment of patient, receiving informed consent forms from the patient. Proper IV insertion completed and documented, along with accurate dose administration and calculation.
  • Ensuring that acquisition protocols are followed by, verification of acquisition times and /or counts. Patient and camera positioning. Absence or reduction of artifact. Assessment of the raw data.
  • Process and Display protocols and standards will be measured according PHC standards by, review and verification of process data/images. Reviewing processed data to ensure technical and diagnostic quality has been achieved. Producing high quality images.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Varied settings including exam rooms, laboratory, ER, operating room. Sometimes works in close quarters. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, ionizing radiation and other conditions common to radiology setting


PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Combination of walking, bending, reaching, lifting transferring activities. Must be able to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately. Occasional stress from multiple requests.
