Job Title: School Based Clinician

Work Location: Boston, MA

Job Summary:

The school-based Clinician is responsible for providing behavioral health counseling, group and intervention/prevention services to un/underinsured students and families who have witnessed or experienced all types of violence within their community or family. Must have a firm comprehension of Trauma-Informed service provision best practices and a clear protocol for integration into programming, including links to local community programs that specialize in providing services to people who have experienced trauma. She/he is accountable to the Supervising Licensed, Master Level Clinician. The Master’s level clinician maintains a caseload of 8-12 youth/families, and will liaises with Outpatient Clinician, Care Coordinator and the Family Partners, and other team members to achieve program objectives, including school and community partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 counseling, group counseling, and psycho-educational workshops and presentation on trauma, violence prevention and bullying in a school setting or other community settings.
  • Utilize a Positive Youth Development (PYD), client centered, and Trauma-informed approach to service provision.
  • Provide outreach in the home or other community location, as requested.
  • Review cases with guidance counselors and other clinical staff during monthly clinical meetings.
  • Target services and programs to meet developmental needs of children with trauma.
  • Utilize service strategies that are culturally competent and promote diversity.
  • Complete social clinical assessments of clients for diagnostic treatment and referral purposes.
  • Develop treatment plans with clients and relatives.
  • Development of a youth and family centered treatment plan in collaboration with the youth, parent/caregiver(s), and with required consents, in consultation with other providers.
  • Review and modification of treatment plan as necessary.
  • Review/development of a risk management/safety plan in collaboration with the youth and parent/caregiver.
  • Provides intensive family therapy that may include working with the entire family, or a subset of the family, to implement focused, structural, strategic, or behavioral techniques, or evidenced-based interventions to enhance problem solving, limit setting, risk management/safety planning, communication, skill building to strengthen the family, and to advance therapeutic goals or improve ineffective patterns of interactions.
  • Identification of community resources and development of natural supports for youth and parent/caregiver(s) to support and sustain achievement of the youth’s treatment plan goals and objectives.
  • Master level clinicians must inform the Agency of all emergencies or critical incidents.
  • Review client records for completeness and follow through on referrals.
  • Provide case management, outreach, and advocacy services to clients within the caseload.
  • Participate in scheduled supervision with the Clinical Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The Master Level Clinician must possess a Master's degree in a human service field (including but not restricted to counseling, family therapy, social work, psychology, etc.) from an accredited college/university.
  • The Master's Level Clinician must possess training in family therapy as well as training and working experience with youth and families.
  • Experience navigating any of the child/family-serving systems and advocating for family members who are involved in the behavioral health system.
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, creative, analytical and decisive in problem solving.
  • Demonstrated communications, administrative and organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and community agencies: School Dept.,
  • DYS, Juvenile Court, etc.
  • Understanding/willingness to be part of a Program that supports youth and families 24 hours per day, 365 days a year.
  • Must have a driver’s license and availability of vehicle to support Program needs.
  • Must demonstrated specialized training in working with traumatized youth/families and participate in specialized training as required.
