Job Description

Overview

The Manager Chaplaincy provides a support system to patients and families, acts as a spiritual counselor to staff members and serves as a spiritual liaison to the local community. S/he manages the chaplain program, internal spiritual care, and religious services for NAH in support of meeting NAH mission, vision, and strategic objectives.


Responsibilities

Spiritual Care
* Serves as a Palliative care team member, attending team rounding, and meetings, providing appropriate spiritual care to patients, families and staff.

* Provides a calming and supportive presence at all times.

* Present with patients, patients’ family, and caregivers during the end of life situations.

* Assesses and matches patients/families spiritual care needs and support.

* Provides appropriate and supportive spiritual care to people facing a personal crisis (death of a child, suicide, drug overdose, mental health issues, drug and alcohol dependency, serious illness and acute trauma).

* Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to provide patients/families with support and service recovery to enhance their experience.


Leadership/People Management
* Promotes an environment that motivates, nurtures and empowers staff. Works to maintain positive inter-departmental relations.

* Coordinates On Call coverage and Chaplain/Native Healer Schedule.

* Supervises and directs training of department staff, contract employees and volunteers.

* Assists with development and implementation of performance and quality improvement initiatives.

* Evaluates and revises spiritual care program to align with Hospital Chaplaincy best practices and to incorporate new ideas that enhance the department's reach and effectiveness.

* Participates in Manager meetings, training, and development initiatives by NAH.

* Recruits, trains, and supervises chaplaincy staff, Native Healer, associates, and volunteers.

* Collaborates with healthcare providers and the community to develop and expand the spiritual care program.

* Serves as an active member of Palliative Care team, Ethics Committee, and other patient care teams.


Financial Management
* Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.


Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

* Collaborates with the Director to develop standards of practice, policies and procedures for the chaplaincy program.

* Commits to the hospital's policy of non-proselytizing.


Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED- Required

Bachelor's Degree in Theology from an accredited school- Required


Experience
Minimum 2 years in a spiritual leadership position- Required

Minimum 2 years spiritual support in a health-related environment- Preferred

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.


Certification & Licensures
1 - 2 units of completed Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)- Preferred
