Job Title: General Craftsperson – Multi-Skilled (Electrician)

Department: Maintenance

Reports to: Director of Facilities

Status: Full-Time, Hourly/Non-Exempt, Non-Benefited

SUMMARY

Perform a wide variety of facility, infrastructure, and utility system maintenance, repair, and renovation tasks at the skilled craftsman level.

RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Director of Facilities and works closely with faculty, staff, and vendors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities are assigned by the Director of Facilities, who may, in their sole discretion, alter, add to, or eliminate job assignments at any time, with or without prior notice. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform preventative and deferred maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems as well as facilities and equipment.
  • Modify, adjust, maintain, repair, or install electric motors, electrical equipment, and instruments such as clocks, lamps, stoves, electrical meters, timers, fans, and timers.
  • Inspect electrical systems, communications systems, and equipment to detect and correct faulty components or parts.
  • Perform alterations, adjustments, modification, repair, and installation of electrical equipment systems.
  • Inspect and test systems, machinery, and equipment. Repair and maintain as necessary.
  • Identify and order supplies, equipment, machinery, etc.
  • Operate tools and equipment necessary to perform tasks.
  • Perform maintenance on equipment used to carry out the work.
  • Must be able to work alone or occasionally act as lead craftsperson on complex jobs.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of electrical systems and the capability of successfully performing tasks associated with other traditional building trades.
  • Assist with special event setup and preparations, table and tent setup, and traffic and parking control.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or Equivalent with three (3) to (5) years of experience in plant operations or general building trades with extensive experience and skills in three or more of the following trades and crafts are required: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, masonry, and/or HVAC.

A strong electrical background is highly preferred. Must be a self-starter, able to work with only general directions and minimal supervision, and must possess good communication and customer-service skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

A valid California Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required. A criminal background check is required and must be successfully completed before employment can begin.

COMPENSATION PHILOSOPHY

Anticipated salary range: $28.00 - $31.00
