Temporary Equipment Operator

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  Operates several types of motorized equipment and performs a variety of manual labor tasks. Position needed from May 13, 2024 to August 30, 2024. Please note that this position is seasonal non-benefited.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:  Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of several types of motorized equipment and machinery.   Required servicing and making of minor mechanical repairs to the equipment.  Ability to follow assignments outlined in detail by the supervisor, standard procedure is followed, and work is inspected periodically for safety and economy in operation.  Motor equipment operators spend considerable time in repairing and maintaining roads and bridges.  Ability to lift 80 pounds and work in adverse weather conditions and perform other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Grade and maintain gravel and dirt surfaced roads.

Repair bridges, auto gates, and replace culverts.

Operate a truck connection with the transportation of sand, stone, gravel, and supplies.

Operate a dump truck in carrying tools, equipment and supplies, brush, sand, gravel, garbage, trash, and dirt.

Operate a skid steer with varies tool attachments.

Operate a vibratory roller,

Welds and cuts steel to build cattle guards.

Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment transported.

Operate front end loader, forklift, backhoe, and comparable equipment.

Perform tasks in the shop when not working as a Motor Equipment Operator

Install and maintain traffic signs.

Operate a computer well enough to keep records to maintain time, service, and material records.

Operate radio equipment.

Operate transit and level to take grade readings.

Build and repair snow fences.

Operate high pressure water system.

Install guard railings.

Install, repair, and clean cattle guards.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Employees in this position must have skill in the operation of backhoes, graders, tractors, trucks, and other heavy equipment under all types of weather conditions.  Employees must demonstrate the ability to follow complex written and oral directions and have complete knowledge of traffic general mechanical aptitude.  Employees need to be able to get along with other employees as a team member, as well as the ability to work alone.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:  Employees in this position must have experience in the operation of heavy automotive equipment.  Employees will have completed high school or equivalent.  A valid Wyoming Class A-CDL driver’s license is preferred.  This job also requires a pre-employment drug test, background check, and driver’s license check.
