Summary:

A Research and Development (R&D) internship involves working in a company or organization's research and development department to support various projects and initiatives. Our aim is to create an experience that allows you to learn without pressure, gain practical skills, build real world experience, develop a greater understanding of our industry and form valuable connections. The specific job description may vary depending on the industry and company, but generally, R&D interns assist in the following activities:

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • General lab maintenance and inventory management.
  • Performing all laboratory activities in accordance with the Quality Program.
  • Participating in continuous improvement activities/projects.
  • Assisting with the planning, execution, and documentation of experiments and tests. This may include conducting laboratory work, collecting data, and analyzing results under the guidance of experienced researchers or scientists.
  • Analyzing and interpreting data using statistical and analytical tools to draw conclusions and identify trends or patterns. R&D interns may help in organizing and summarizing research findings in reports or presentations.
  • Keeping detailed records of research activities, experimental procedures, and outcomes. This includes maintaining accurate and organized files, lab notebooks, and databases for future reference.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, attending meetings, and providing support to R&D staff. Interns may be expected to share progress updates, contribute to brainstorming sessions, and communicate their findings effectively.
  • Contributing ideas, suggestions, and innovative solutions to address technical challenges and improve existing processes. R&D interns may participate in ideation sessions or be involved in troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise during projects.
  • Adhering to safety protocols and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines when working with equipment, materials, or hazardous substances.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Education, and/or Experience Required:

Non-Technical Candidates Should:

  • Have a natural ability to listen and understand company needs and concerns
  • Have an aptitude and affinity for research and analysis.
  • Excellent with verbal observation and perception

Technical Candidates Should:

  • First through fourth year course studies in Computer Science, Math, or Engineering
  • Work in an unstructured, but highly productive R&D environment.

Language Skills:

  • English required, bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
  • Reasonable accommodations can be made, up to and including translation services.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE
  • Able to sit, stand and walk around for long hours at a time
  • Ability to Lift 20 lbs. routinely
  • Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach
  • Clarity of Vision
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to work in an environment with variable noise levels
  • Must be able to work in a Lab setting with exposure to various product-related chemicals
  • Ability to work in variable temperatures
