Job Description

SafeTower seeks an experienced individual in data science to support the development, discovery, and implementation of innovative methods to more intelligently use information to identify system defects, mine risks, and inform decision making necessary to mitigate preventable harm. This role will report to the VP of Patient Safety and Consulting and will collaborate with a team of developers, analysts, technical leads, subject matter experts, and vendor partners. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker who is open to proposing new and innovative ways to solve problems, while demonstrating an attention to detail that leads to a high degree of reliability, accuracy and precision necessary to develop advanced analytics.

Responsibilities for the role include:

  • Identifying relevant data sources for business and product needs
  • Collecting or overseeing the collection, processing, and verification of structured and unstructured data and sourcing data where needed
  • Collating and organising data to meet product and business needs
  • Developing and building predictive models based on defined product and business objectives
  • Developing new machine learning algorithms and enhancing existing models
  • Performing experimental design
  • Collaborating with team members on setting up required data infrastructure
  • Generating information and insights from data sets and identifying trends and patterns
  • Helping shape the visualisations of data ideal needed to further product and business needs
  • and solving customers’ analytic challenges

The data scientist will also assume other general responsibilities as directed, from time to time, to support growth and expansion objectives of the organization.

Education requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Math, Engineering, Physics, Statistics or a closely related analytic field required. Master’s or PhD degree preferred.

The ideal candidate will possess the following experience and skills:

Work experience:

  • 5+ years of experience with patient safety or healthcare related data strongly preferred.
  • 5+ five years experience developing supervised and unsupervised algorithms using progressively large scale and complex data sets with proven skills in executing data-based projects from initiation to completion.
  • 7+ years experience with core analytic methodologies (e.g. regression, classification, clustering, matrix factorization, natural language processing, decision trees, support vector machines, neural networks)
  • 7+ years experience managing large datasets, database design and implementation, data cleaning and mining statistical analyses, and machine learning.

Skills:

  • Has expert level knowledge of supervised and unsupervised algorithm approaches and machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naïve Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests.
  • Has expert level programming skills with common data science toolkits in languages such as R, Python, MatLab, or others.
  • Is proficient in using query languages at scale such as SQL, Hive, or Pig.
  • Has proficiency in working with statistical packages such as STAT.
  • Excellent analytical skills - the ability to identify trends, patterns and insights from data
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Working understanding of databases such as SQL Server, NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, and HBase, ETL framework and ETL tools, reporting and data visualisation tools such as Business Objects, PowerBi and Tableau.
  • Understanding of website scripts such as XML, Javascript, JSON
  • Presentation skills – ability to write and speak clearly to easily communicate complex ideas in a way that is easy to understand
  • Data visulazation skills – ability to present findings to enterprise-level clients
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • A good communicator with effective stakeholder management & conflict resolution skills.
